India: 12,794 migrant workers in AP willing to return home

Amaravati, May 1 (PTI): More than 12,700 migrants from across the country, who had come to work in different sectors in Andhra Pradesh, are ready to go back to their native states as the restrictions on movement during the ongoing coronavirus lockdown have been eased.

The Andhra Pradesh government has set up an inter-state control room in Vijayawada with a helpline number and appointed a nodal officer to ensure hassle-free departure of the migrant workers stranded in the state, a senior official said on Friday.

India: AP Deputy CM's personal attendant tests positive

Amaravati, April 29 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister (Health) A K K Srinivas on Wednesday said his personal attendant has tested positive for coronavirus infection in the TruNat machine test(normally used for TB testing).

The Deputy Chief Minister, however, tested negative apart from 13 other members of his office at theState Secretariat.

India: Untimely rain damages paddy crop on 5,000 hectares in AP

Amaravati(AP), Apr 26 (PTI) At a time when a bumper harvest was expected in the Rabi season, untimely rain in different districts of Andhra Pradesh left paddy crop in over 5,000 hectares damaged, causing distress to farmers.

Krishna and East Godavari districts suffered the major damage as partly harvested and also ready to harvest paddy was hit by the sudden rain on Saturday, official sources said.

India: AP govt imports 1 lakh COVID-19 testing kits from South Korea

Amaravati(AP), Apr 17 (PTI) The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday imported one lakh rapid test kits (RTKs) from South Korea to step up Covid-19 testing in the state.

The AP government chartered a special flight to import the RTKs from Seoul directly to Vijayawada airport.

India: 10 killed in lightning strikes in AP

Amaravati(AP), Apr 10 (PTI) As many as 10 people have been killed in lightning strikes in three districts of Andhra Pradesh, the State Disaster Management Authority said here on Friday.

In a release, the SDMA said seven people were killed in lightning strikes in five mandals of SPS Nellore district, two in Guntur and one in Prakasam district on Thursday.

India: Hundreds of people stranded at AP-Telangana checkpoints

Amaravati, Mar 26 (PTI): Hundreds of people were left stranded at various checkpoints on the Andhra Pradesh- Telangana borders since Wednesday night as authorities refused to let them into the state in view of the coronavirus lockdown, exposing the communication gap and lack of coordination between the authorities of the two States.

After frantic SOS calls by the stranded persons, including pregnant women and children, AP authorities finally agreed to let them in, on the condition that they be shifted to a quarantine facility.

India: Civic polls put off in AP due to Corona

Amaravati, Mar 15 (PTI) Elections to to rural and urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh were put off for six weeks by the State Election Commission on Sunday in view of spread of coronavirus.

Elections to gram panchayats have been kept in abeyance for six weeks, State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar said.

India: Minor girl raped in Andhra Pradesh

Machilipatnanm (AP), Feb 27 (PTI) A 10-year old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by an unidentified man and dumped in a serious condition in Nuzvid town in Krishna District in Andhra Pradesh, police said on Thursday.

The girl was found by a police patrol team in a semi- conscious state near the IIIT campus in Nuzvid early Thursday and shifted to a hospital in Vijayawada after being treated locally, they said.
