India: Film director, producer face case for obscene posters

Hyderabad, Feb 6 (PTI): A Telugu film director and producer have been booked for putting up 'obscene' posters following a complaint from locals, police said on Thursday.

The case was registered against the director Narsimha Nandi and producer Srinivas Rao of the film 'Degree College' for promoting the flick by allegedly putting up 'obscene' posters at Ameerpet, the police said.

However, no arrest has been made. Investigation is on, they said.

India: TDP chief, 17 MLAs taken in police custody

Amaravati, Jan 20 (PTI) Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu and at least 17 MLAs of his party were taken in police custody late on Monday as they tried to conduct a foot march from the state assembly to nearby Mandadam village in violation of prohibitory orders.

TDP leaders started off on the march after staging a sit-in near the assembly main entrance following the suspension of 17 MLAs from the House for the day.

India: 4-year-old girl raped by two minor boys

Kakinada (AP), Jan 17(PTI): A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two minor boys while she was alone in her residence here on Friday, police said.

Based on a complaint from the victims mother, the boys, aged 8 and 12, have been detained under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, the police said, adding that the girl has been sent for a medical examination.

India: Woman model allegedly raped by two, including minor

Hyderabad, Jan 10 (PTI): A 21-year-old model was allegedly raped by two people, including a minor here, police said on Friday.

The woman, in her complaint, said she was raped by the duo in an inebirated state at her rented house on December 28 last year, they said.

In her complaint filed on January 7, she said they also threatened her with dire consequences if she lodged a police complaint and that they had videographed the act.

The woman claimed that one of the accused is the son of the owner of the hostel where she lived earlier, while the other was his friend.

India: AP CM appears before CBI court in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Jan 10 (PTI) Amid tight security, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday appeared before a CBI special court here in connection with the quid pro quo investments cases filed against him.

This is Jagan's first appearance in the court after he assumed charge as Chief Minister on May 30, 2019.

India: Man 'sexually assaults' 5-yr-old girl

Hyderabad, Jan 5 (PTI) A 5-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a construction worker in Nacharam area here on Sunday, police said.

The accused, who is absconding, lives in her neighbourhood.

The 30-year-old man lured the girl by offering chocolates and took her to a newly constructed house and allegedly sexually assaulted her there, they said.

India: CBI court directs AP CM Jagan to appear before it on Jan 10

Hyderabad, Jan 4 (PTI): A Special CBI court here has directed Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to appear before it on January 10 in connection with alleged 'quid pro quo' investments into his firms.

The court gave the direction on Friday while hearing a petition by him seeking exemption from personal appearance.

Ever since Jagan became the chief minister he has not appeared for the hearings citing his busy schedule as CM.

India: English to be medium of instruction in AP schools from classes 1-6

Amaravati, Nov 20 (PTI) English will be the medium of instruction for classes 1 to 6 in all schools in Andhra Pradesh replacing native language Telugu, beginning from the next academic year, with Telugu or Urdu being a compulsory subject.

State Principal Secretary (School Education) B Rajsekhar issued an order on Wednesday to convert all classes from 1 to 6 in primary, upper primary, high schools under all managements into English medium from academic year 2020-21.

India: Financial aid for Christians, Muslims pilgrims enhanced in Andhra

Amaravati, Nov 19 (PTI) The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday enhanced the financial assistance to each of the Christians and Muslims undertaking pilgrimage to Jerusalem and Haj respectively.

Minorities Welfare Department Principal Secretary Mohd Ilyas Rizvi issued two separate orders in this regard.
