Egypt's assistant military attache killed in Sudan

25 Apr 2023; MEMO: Egypt's Foreign Ministry yesterday confirmed the killing of Mohamed Al-Gharawy, assistant administrative attache at the embassy in Khartoum.

In a post on facebook, the ministry said Al-Gharawy was killed "on his way from his home to the embassy headquarters to follow up on the evacuation of Egyptian citizens."

KHARTOUM, April 23 (Reuters) - Sudan's sudden slide into conflict between the army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group has stranded thousands of foreigners, including diplomats and aid workers, and countries are working to evacuate their nationals.

Several evacuation efforts appear to be via Port Sudan on the Red Sea, which is directly located about 650 km (400 miles) northeast of Khartoum, but is about 800 km (500 miles) by road.

Sudan rivals pledge evacuation help, US diplomats airlifted

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) — American embassy staffers were airlifted from Sudan early Sunday, as forces loyal to rival generals battled for control of Africa’s third-largest nation for a ninth day amid fading hopes for deescalation.

The warring sides said they were helping coordinate the evacuation of foreigners, though continued exchanges of fire in Sudan’s capital undermined those claims.

320 Sudan soldiers flee to Chad amid fighting

20 Apr 2023; MEMO: The Chadian Ministry of Defence announced yesterday that 320 Sudanese soldiers have fled the fighting in their country and crossed the border to surrender to the Chadian army, Anadolu news agency reported.

"Elements of the Sudanese army, including 320 gendarmes, police and military personnel, have entered Chadian territory … all have been disarmed and confined," General Daoud Yaya Brahim said while speaking at a press conference, local media reported.

US bolstering Forces ahead of possible Sudan embassy evacuation

20 Apr 2023; MEMO: The US is increasing the number of troops it has deployed to East Africa as the Biden administration prepares for a potential evacuation of its embassy staff in Sudan, the Pentagon said Thursday, Reuters reports.

Defence Department spokesperson, Lt. Desert., Phil Ventura, said US Africa Command "is monitoring the situation in Sudan and conducting prudent planning for various contingencies" as violence continues to spiral in Sudan between warring Generals.
