El Salvador invites European Union to act as observer in elections

European Union

SAN SALVADOR, Sept 15 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — El Salvador invited the European Union (EU) officially to participate as an observer in the February 2024 elections, a source from the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) said.

The ruling body of the upcoming elections asked the Europeans to send an observer mission to the presidential, legislative, municipal and Central American Parliament elections in 2024.

Quoted by the El Mundo newspaper, two inside sources of the TSE confirmed that the plenary of magistrates sent a formal invitation to receive an observer mission for the upcoming elections, in which Salvadoran residents abroad will cast their votes electronically for the first time.

Reports indicate that the TSE expects at least 5,799 observers to monitor the elections on Feb 4 and March 3, 2024, some 3,696 of whom would be national and 2,103 would be international.

El Mundo reported that Judge Guillermo Wellman assured that observers will be available in person for the execution of the electronic voting at the polling stations.
