Mongolian gov't says electricity supply from Russia won't reduce in near future

ULAN BATOR, Dec.14 (Xinhua) -- Russia will not reduce its electricity supply to Mongolia in the near future, said the Mongolian government's press office on Thursday.

"The Russian side said that it will not limit the supply of electricity in the near future. The inter-governmental commission of the two countries will continue to work on the issue," the press office said in a statement.

On Wednesday, Mongolian Energy Minister Battogtokh Choijilsuren said Russia will reduce the electricity supply for an indefinite period. "We have to restrict the electricity consumption of consumers for three hours a day in the capital Ulan Bator and 150 soums (administrative subdivisions) of six provinces starting Thursday."

Mongolian Prime Minister Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene has ordered to take all possible measures to ensure the smooth supply of electricity.

According to the ministry of energy, around 80 percent of the country's electricity supply is produced domestically, and 20 percent imported.
