India: Mayor's ire over engineers for water-logging

Kanpur: The Mayor's wrath was worth realizing at the water-logging in the city. She did not budge in condemning the officers' laxity in nullah cleaning work. The height of their inactiveness was that they were not ready to accept faults. Instead they were finding faults with one another.

The Mayor Pramila Pandey said three executive engineers of Nagar Nigam and JAL Nigam were found irresponsible and she would recommend the state government for the transfer.

She was attending a meeting of the Jal Kal, Jal Nigam and Nagar Nigam officers at the Kanpur Municipal Corporation premises here on Wednesday.

She made it clear that she would recommend the state govt to remove the project engineer G Diwvedi, responsible for misbehavior with a Corporator and no action for the nullah blockage.

She categorically said that it was due to his irresponsible approach the  disgrace came upon her. Despite her rapprochement the engineers were putting blame on one another. When the chief engineer Anil Gupta told that onus of Sisamau nullah rested on the contractor Satish Sachan, she asked why did he not take help of another contractor.

The Assistant Nagar Ayukt Swarn Singh was made incharge of control room that would function round the clock with ample staff. When there was water-logging in the city areas as many as four employees were found absent. Taking speedy action the Nagar Ayukt suspended them.
