MOSCOW, Sept 20 (NNN-SPUTNIK) — The Global Climate Strike, inspired by 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who calls for immediate action on climate change, started worldwide on Friday, reported Sputnik news agency.

The strike will be held on two successive Fridays, on September 20 and 27. The event coincides with UN Climate Action Summit 2019 that will start in New York on September 23.

“This September, millions of us will walk out of our workplaces and homes to join young climate strikers on the streets and demand an end to the age of fossil fuels. Our house is on fire – let’s act like it. We demand climate justice for everyone,” the statement from the Global Climate Strike says on its official website.

The strike comes after in May, children from Fridays For Future movement walked out of schools to demand action against global warming and asked adults to join them the next time.

Fridays For Future started in 2018 following the call by Thunberg, who protested in front of the country’s parliament for three weeks against the lack of climate action.
