India: UPPCB tests air pollution level in city's localities

Kanpur: In view of the increasing level of air pollution the district administration has decided to confirm the causes and the exact condition of the air pollution in different localities.

The District Magistrate Vijay V Pant has asked the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board regional officer to conduct a test of the air pollution level in prominent localities.

For this purpose, he suggested bringing in use installed pollution measuring gadgets under the Smart City project.

An automatic monitoring centre has been set up by the Central Pollution Control Board at Nehru Nagar here. Latest data on air pollution level is availed through this gadget within half an hour.

Besides, the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board' s manual monitoring centres were existing at city's areas like Zarib Chowki, Kalyanpur, Panki, Tatmill, and Kidwainagar. The area is large so there is requiring more monitoring units. In such case the exact monitoring hampers, therefore, the DM has directed to carry on monitoring of air pollution level through the temporary tools in the localities. Twice a week evaluation of air pollution level is not proving to be sufficient.

The UPPCB regional officer Dr SB Franklin said work in testing the level of air pollution in main localities was begun.
