Cambodia Says ASEAN Fully Confident In China’s Capacity To Contain COVID-19

PHNOM PENH, Feb 23 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia said, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), is fully confident in China’s capacity to control and contain the spread of COVID-19.

“ASEAN Foreign Ministers expressed full confidence in the government and people of China, to overcome the epidemic and, in return, their Chinese counterpart extended his appreciation to ASEAN Member States for sympathy, support and assistance,” said a Cambodian foreign ministry statement.

The statement was released after Cambodian Foreign Minister, Prak Sokhonn, returned from a special foreign ministers’ meeting between ASEAN and China on the COVID-19, which was held in Vientiane, Laos.

During the meeting, Prak Sokhonn, who is also the deputy prime minister, reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to continue standing firmly with the government and people of China, in the fight against COVID-19, the statement said.

“We see that China spared no effort to contain the virus, and we’re very confident in China’s ability to contain it because China has enough resources, both human and medical, to control and contain the virus spread,” she said. “I have strong conviction that China will win the fight against the virus in the near future.”

Or Vandine, secretary of state and spokeswoman of Cambodia’s Health Ministry said, the meeting’s outcome clearly reflected China and ASEAN’s solidarity and commitment to jointly combat the virus.

Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Koy Kuong, said, he highly praised and valued China’s efforts to contain the outbreak.

“China has taken smart, quick and effective measures to control and contain the virus,” he said.
