India: No spectators at Narendra Modi Stadium for remaining T20 matches

Ahmedabad, Mar 15 (PTI) In view of the surge in coronavirus cases, the remaining three T20 cricket matches between India and England will be played without any spectators at the Narendra Modi Stadium here.

The announcement was made by the Gujarat Cricket Association, which owns the ground in the Motera area of the city.

The matches scheduled for March 16, 18 and 20 will be played without any spectators in the stands, and those who have already bought the tickets will get a refund, it said.

India: Four of family arrested for female infanticide in Gujarat

Mehsana, Mar 14 (PTI) An offence was registered against four members of a family for allegedly killing a month-old baby girl in December 2019 at Kadi town of Gujarat's Mehsana district in a case of female infanticide, police said on Sunday.

The infant's parents and grandparents had falsely told the investigators that she had died due to suffocation during breastfeeding, but her post-mortem revealed that she was strangulated to death, police said.

India: Bhavnagar shipbuilding park project on hold: Guj CM

Gandhinagar, Mar 8 (PTI) The Gujarat government on Monday informed the Assembly that a project to develop a shipbuilding park along the Bhavnagar coast has been put on hold for now in view of the recession in the sector.

The park, which was supposed to come up at Juna Bandar (old port) area of Bhavnagar, was among the two such projects approved by the Gujarat government in November 2009, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said in this written reply during Question Hour.

India: Gujarat Cong chief resigns after local bodies election defeat

Ahmedabad, Mar 2 (PTI) In view of the Congress' debacle in the elections to local bodies in Gujarat, state unit president Amit Chavda and Leader of Opposition Paresh Dhanani resigned from their posts on Tuesday.

Chavda said people had raised doubts about EVMs and all these things should be probed.

A party spokesperson said it was now up to the top brass of the Congress to decide the future course of action.

India: Gujarat local bodies polls: AAP wins 42 seats

Ahmedabad, Mar 2(PTI) Days after winning 27 seats in the elections to Surat Municipal Corporation in Gujarat, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday emerged victors in 42 seats in rural and semi-urban pockets of the state.

Results of Sunday's polls in 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats were declared on Tuesday, and the AAP, as per the State Election Commission, won 31 seats in taluka panchayats, nine in municipalities and two district panchayat seats.

India: BJP set to retain power in six Gujarat municipal corporations

Ahmedabad, Feb 23 (PTI) The BJP on Tuesday appeared on course to retain power in six municipal corporations, winning 409 of the 474 seats where results were declared till evening.

Polling for 576 seats in Ahmedabad and five other civic corporations was held on February 21. The counting of votes began on Tuesday morning and is still underway.

India: People entering Gujarat to be screened for COVID-19

Ahmedabad, Feb 22 (PTI) To stem the spread of coronavirus in Gujarat, the state government on Monday decided to set up border check posts to screen people coming from neighbouring states, including Maharashtra, through roads.

The decision to conduct coronavirus test on people coming to Gujarat has been taken in view of "continuous increase in COVID-19 cases in the neighbouring states like Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh", said a government release.

India: Haren Pandya murder convict who jumped parole held

Ahmedabad, Feb 16 (PTI) The Gujarat Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Tuesday held a person who was convicted in the Haren Pandya murder case but jumped parole last year while serving a life sentence, officials said.

Kalim Ahmed Karimi (47) was held from Juhapura area here and will be handed over to Sabarmati jail authorities after a mandatory COVID-19 test, they added.

India: Gujarat CM collapses on stage at poll rally

Vadodara, Feb 14 (PTI) Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani collapsed on stage on Sunday while addressing a rally for upcoming civic polls in Nizampura area of Vadodara, BJP leaders said.

Rupani was given first aid on the stage. He was later seen descending the stairs of the stage on his own.

This was Rupani's third political rally during the day in Vadodara.

India: Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani tests positive for coronavirus

Ahmedabad, Feb 15 (PTI) Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has tested positive for coronavirus, said a hospital where the CM is admitted after he fainted in a rally.

On Sunday, Rupani, 64, fainted on stage while addressing a rally in Vadodara for the upcoming civic polls in the state, following which he was flown to Ahmedabad and admitted to the U N Mehta Hospital here.

Rupani's sample was collected on Sunday night and sent for RT-PCR test which has come out positive for coronavirus, said a health bulletin issued by the hospital on Monday.
