Bahrain convicts 51 people over ‘Iran links’

05 Nov 2020; MEMO: The Bahrain High Criminal Court has convicted 51 people on charges of belonging to an “unnamed” militant group.

Bahrain claimed the convicts received orders as well as weapons from the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to target “vital economic installations, security patrol sites, the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior and the Bahrain Defence Force”.

Bahrain, Israel Sign Deal To Establish Diplomatic Relations

MANAMA, Oct 19 (NNN-BNA) – A high-level U.S.-Israeli delegation arrived in Manama, capital of Bahrain, yesterday, to sign a deal to advance full diplomatic relations between Israel and Bahrain.

The joint delegation includes Israel’s National Security Council head, Meir Ben-Shabbat and U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Steve Mnuchin.

They were welcomed at Bahrain International Airport by Bahraini Foreign Minister, Abdullatif Al Zayani.

Israel sends treaty delegation to Bahrain with Trump aides

MANAMA (Reuters) - An Israeli delegation accompanied by the U.S. treasury secretary arrived in Bahrain on Sunday to formalise nascent relations and broaden Gulf cooperation that Washington has promoted as an anti-Iran bulwark and potential economic bonanza.

Bahrain followed the United Arab Emirates in agreeing last month to normalise ties with Israel, stunning Palestinians who had demanded statehood before any such regional rapprochement.

Bahrain rejects normalisation with Israel without Palestine statehood

Bahrain has refused to follow in the footsteps of the UAE and insisted that it would only normalise ties with Israel when regional power-house, Saudi Arabia, strikes a deal with Tel Aviv.

Bahrain adds $470M in coronavirus impact spending to 2020 budget

14 July 2020; MEMO: Bahrain will add around 177 million dinars ($470 million) to its 2020 state budget in emergency spending on fighting the new coronavirus pandemic, state news agency BNA said on Monday, reporting a royal decree.

To this end, $450 million will be taken as a one-time deduction from the Future Generations Fund (FGF), a fund set up in 2006 to reinvest hydrocarbon revenues, and allocated to this year’s state budget, another new decree said.

Bahrain receives $4.57bn in aid from Gulf neighbours

7 May 2020; MEMO: Bahrain has received $4.57 billion in urgent financial aid from its Gulf Arab neighbours as part of a support package approved in 2018, a government document revealed.

According to the document Bahrain’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to $3.7 billion at the end of December 2019.

The government is expected to withdraw another $1.76 billion from the Gulf support package this year.

125 Bahrain nationals evacuated from India

Pune, Apr18 (PTI) One hundred and twenty-five Bahrain nationals, stranded here because of coronavirus outbreak, were evacuated on Saturday, an airport official said.

A special flight of Gulf Air evacuated 125 Bahrain nationals from here and flew to Chennai to take on board others, said a senior official of the Pune International Airport.

Before boarding the flight, they were screened.

"One of them had a high temperature so he was not allowed to get onto the plane. He was referred to a hostel facility," the official said.
