But this time he was a Democratic candidate for president, speaking just days after a white officer fatally shot a black man the officer said was armed with a knife.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) — The California man who became known as the “American Taliban” after his capture on an Afghanistan battlefield in late 2001 is on the cusp of release from prison.
Thirty-eight-year-old John Walker Lindh is scheduled for release Thursday from the federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana. He has spent more than 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to providing support to the Taliban.
The plea deal called for a 20-year sentence, but Lindh is getting out a few years early for good behavior.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A federal grand jury has indicted two members of “extremely sophisticated” hacking group operating from China in the 2014-2015 theft of the personal information of nearly 79 million customers of insurer Anthem Inc., the biggest known health care hack in U.S. history.
The Justice Department said the two also hacked three other U.S.-based companies it did not name, one in the technology sector, the others in basic materials and communications.
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg (BOO’-tuh-juhj) says President Donald Trump has “made it pretty clear that he deserves impeachment,” but he will “leave it to the House and Senate to figure that out.”
The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate was asked about the call from some people in his party for Trump’s impeachment following the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s redacted report looking into connections between Russia and Trump’s 2016 campaign as well as obstruction of justice.
HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) — Former Vice President Joe Biden brought his blue-collar appeal to a Democratic stronghold of Indiana on Friday, heaping praise on Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly as the kind of guy who keeps his word, puts country over party — and would have his back in a street fight.
Around the same time, current Vice President Mike Pence was rallying for Donnelly’s opponent, Mike Braun, in Indianapolis.
