India: teen raped, stabbed in private parts in MP, critical

Rewa (MP), Oct 12 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was raped and stabbed in her private part allegedly by a 22-year-old man in Rewa in Madhya Pradesh and her condition is critical, police said on Monday.

Prime accused Ankit Rawat (22) has been arrested while his accomplice Vanshpati Rawat (27) is on the run, said Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh.

India: Cong accuses BJP MLA of distributing cash in MP bypolls

Indore, Oct 12 (PTI) The Congress in Madhya Pradesh on Monday alleged BJP MLA Akash Vijaywargiya had distributed money to voters in Sanver assembly constituency in Indore district for November 3 byelection and cited a video clip doing rounds of the social media.

State BJP spokesperson Umesh Sharma has dismissed the allegation. "Vijaywargiya (who represents Indore-3 seat) was actually distributing photos of Lord Shiva," he told PTI.

India: MP bypolls: BSP confident of emerging as 'kingmaker'

Bhopal, Oct 10 (PTI) The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Saturday expressed confidence that it would emerge as a "kingmaker" by winning at least 10 out of the 28 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh, where bypolls would be held on November 3.

The Mayawati-led party currently has two MLAs in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, whose effective strength has come down to 202 after the death of three MLAs and resignations by 25 others.

India: BJP MLA's daughter alleges dowry harassment by husband

Sheopur, Oct 8 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA Sitaram Adivasi's daughter has filed a police complaint alleging dowry harassment and domestic violence by her husband and in- laws, a police official said on Thursday.

The legislator's daughter got married around five years back to Sonu Adivasi of Mayapur village under Karahal police station limits in Sheopur, he said.

India: Dalit woman alleges rape by seven men in MP

Hoshangabad (MP), Oct 5 (PTI) A 19-year-old Dalit woman has alleged that she was raped by seven men separately in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh last month, police said on Monday, adding that four persons have been arrested.

The alleged incidents had taken place on September 20 and September 25, a police officer said quoting the FIR lodged by the woman on Sunday.

The complainant is a resident of a village under Piparia police station area in Hoshangabad district.

India: Two arrested for rape, murder of two-year-old girl in MP

Jabalpur (MP), Oct 1 (PTI)Two men were arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping and killing a two-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district, the police said.

The incident had taken place last month near Shahpura village, 45 km from here.

Sonu Thakur alias Sonu Gond (21) and Shubham Mallah (20) were arrested for kidnapping, raping and killing the girl, said district superintendent of police S Bahuguna.

India: Minor girl gang-raped in MP's Khargone

Khargone (MP), Sep 30 (PTI) A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by three unidentified men near Marugarh village here, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday in the Chainpur police station area, they said.

The girl and her brother were sleeping inside a hut in an agriculture field in the village when the three accused arrived on a two-wheeler and dragged her out, Superintendent of Police Shailendra Singh Chauhan said.

They hit the brother with a stick when he opposed them, the SP said.

India: Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in MP

Sehore, Sep 30 (PTI) A 55-year-old debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district, police said.

The farmer's family members said his soyabean crop was damaged due to heavy rains in the district this year.

Nannulal Verma allegedly hanged himself at his residence in Naaplakhedi village in the morning, Additional Superintendent of Police Samir Yadav said.

India: Religious places reopen in Indore after six months

Indore, Sep 29 (PTI) Religious places have reopened in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district after nearly six months, and devotees have been asked to strictly follow all guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In an order issued late Monday evening, district Collector Manish Singh asked devotees and priests to wear masks properly covering the nose and mouth and follow the social distancing norms.
