USA: Ukraine urges all nations to vote to preserve its territory

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Ukraine’s foreign minister on Wednesday urged the world’s nations as the anniversary of Russia’s invasion nears to prove they stand for the United Nations Charter and vote in favor of a U.N. resolution calling for a peace that ensures his war-ravaged country’s “sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity.”

Dmytro Kuleba told an emergency special session of the U.N. General Assembly that despite Moscow’s “empty calls” for negotiations, “Russia still wants to destroy Ukraine as a nation.”

UN to convene as Ukraine, allies seek votes for ‘peace’ resolution

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 22 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The UN General Assembly meets Wednesday, two days ahead of the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with Kyiv and its allies hoping to garner broad support for a resolution calling for a “just and lasting peace.”

The draft resolution, sponsored by some 60 countries, is to be voted on after the close of debate — not expected until at least Thursday.

USA: Stocks hold relatively steady after worst rout in two months

The S&P 500 was 0.3% higher in early trading. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 59 points, or 0.2%, at 33,188, as of 9:45 a.m. Eastern time, while the Nasdaq composite was 0.6% higher.

Blinken says US ready to discuss arms limitations with Russia

USA: UN tries anew to finish treaty protecting the high seas

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 21 (NNN-AGENCIES) — UN member states embraced “positive energy” as they launched two weeks of negotiations aimed at finally reaching a treaty meant to protect and preserve vast areas of the world’s oceans.

After more than 15 years of formal and informal talks, this is the third time in less than a year that negotiators have converged on New York in what, yet again, is supposed to be a final and conclusive round.

But as the talks, set to run through March 3, opened on Monday, cautious optimism appeared to be taking hold.
