GPS jamming during NATO drills in 2018 a big concern

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — The Norwegian Intelligence Service says GPS signal disruption as seen during major NATO drills in Norway last year “is of particular concern” for the military and “is also a threat to civil aviation in peacetime.”

The intelligence agency said Monday in its annual report that the signal jamming “represents not only a new challenge” for NATO members, but saying Russia’s ability to project its power “in peace, crisis and war will increase.”

Strong growth of Norwegians' wealth: report

OSLO, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- New figures from Norway's statistics bureau showed strong increase of Norwegian population's wealth due to a long-term stock market upturn and housing price growth, online newspaper E24 reported Saturday.

Total gross wealth in 2017 was 9,975 billion kroner (1,145 billion U.S. dollars), which is an increase of 9.1 percent from the year before, according to the Statistics Norway (SSB).

Frigate, oil tanker collide off western Norway, injuring 7

OSLO, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- A Norwegian navy frigate collided with an oil tanker off Norway's western coast early Thursday morning, injuring seven people, local media reported.

There were 137 people aboard the KNM Helge Ingstad frigate and 23 others on the Sola TS tanker when the collision occurred outside the Sture Terminal, an oil terminal 50 km northwest of Bergen, Norway, according to VG newspaper.

The frigate was taking a lot of water and seven of its crew were injured, police told the newspaper, adding that everyone aboard the vessels has already been evacuated.

50,000 troops to participate in NATO's Trident Juncture 2018 exercise in Norway

OSLO, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- About 50,000 troops from 31 countries will participate in NATO's Trident Juncture 2018 exercise in Norway from Oct. 25 to Nov. 7, the Norwegian Armed Forces said on Wednesday.

All 29 NATO member nations and its partners Sweden and Finland, with around 150 aircraft, 65 vessels and up to 10,000 vehicles, will take part in the exercise, which would be the alliance's biggest maneuvers since the Cold War.
