Russian weapons maker Kalashnikov negotiates joint production in South America

LIMA /Peru/, October 31. /TASS/: The Kalashnikov Group of Companies is negotiating joint production of small arms with a number of South American companies, TASS learned during the SITDEF 2021 international arms exhibition in Peru.

"Currently, negotiations are under way with a number of companies about the possibility of organizing joint production, but no solid agreements have been reached yet," the company said.

According to the company’s press service, Kalashnikov eyes Brazil as one of potential production sites.

Peru's Congress postpones Cabinet confirmation vote to next week

LIMA, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Peru's opposition-led Congress pushed back a confirmation vote on the country's new Cabinet until next Thursday, in order to mourn the death of a lawmaker who suddenly died on Monday.

Lawmaker Fernando Herrera Mamani, who belonged to the official Free Peru party, died of a heart condition, Congress said.

The delay caused by Herrera Mamani's death will prolong the uncertainty over the fate of the new Cabinet, the second to be nominated by Socialist President Pedro Castillo in less than three months in office.

8 killed, over 20 injured in traffic accident in Peru

LIMA, Oct 17 (NNN-XINHUA) — Eight people were killed and 20 others were injured after a bus collided with two vehicles on Saturday in the southern department of Arequipa, Peru, local media reported.

  The bus, belonging to the company Tuti Tours, was coming from the province of Caylloma when it lost control and collided with two other vehicles, Radio Programs of Peru cited the National Police as saying.

  Local media said that six people died at the scene and another two died after being transferred to the San Juan de Dios medical center.

Covid-19: Peru to produce Sputnik V vaccine locally starting in 2023

LIMA, Sept 9 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Peru’s President Pedro Castillo has announced a plant to manufacture the Russian-developed Sputnik V COVID-19 locally will be set up in the country, for which the government has allocated US $ 705 million worth of funding.

Castillo explained the move aimed at helping the country go through a third wave of the disease.

“As a result of negotiations between the Peruvian government and the Russian government, the installation of a Sputnik vaccine production plant in the country has been coordinated,” Castillo said in a broadcast message.

Death Toll Rises To 14 In Peruvian Amazon Boat Collision

LIMA, Aug 31 (NNN-ANDINA) – The number of people killed in Sunday’s collision of two vessels in the Huallaga River, in the northern Peruvian district of Yurimaguas, has risen to 14, Defence Minister, Walter Ayala, confirmed yesterday.

Twelve bodies were found in the river on Sunday, and two more bodies were retrieved on yesterday, the official told Canal N news channel.

At Least 11 Dead, Six Injured After Boat Accident In Peru

LIMA, Aug 30 (NNN-ANDINA) – At least 11 people died and six others were injured, after two boats collided on the Huallaga River, in the Peruvian district of Yurimaguas, authorities said yesterday.

Meanwhile, an unknown number of passengers were missing, according to the Sectorial Emergency Operations Centre of the Ministry of Health.

The accident occurred at 4:20 local time early yesterday morning, when a barge, which had left with around 80 people onboard, from Santa Maria to Yurimaguas, was hit by a motorboat.

Peru’s foreign minister quits after claiming CIA responsible for insurgency

LIMA, Aug 20 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Peru’s Foreign Minister Hector Bejar has resigned after allegedly claiming earlier this year that the country’s Shining Path rebel movement was established with help from the US foreign intelligence service CIA.

President Pedro Castillo accepted Bejar’s resignation, the Agencia Andina news agency reported.

Bejar’s remarks in February were widely rejected and led to calls for him to leave office.

Peru: Over 2,000 rally in Lima against leftist Castillo administration

Peru's new govt eyes natural gas, hydroelectric sectors for public companies

LIMA, Aug 8 (Reuters) - Peru's new Prime Minister Guido Bellido told Reuters on Saturday that the state plans to participate in key industries, including natural gas and new hydroelectric projects, under a new leftist administration.

Bellido, the top aide to newly inaugurated President Pedro Castillo, said the government will also seek to create new public companies, a shift for the Andean nation which in recent decades has focused on divesting its state-controlled corporations.

Peru's president expresses confidence in Sinopharm vaccine after receiving first dose

LIMA, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Peru's President Pedro Castillo on Friday expressed confidence in China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine after receiving his dose.

Castillo spoke to reporters after receiving the first shot of the multi-dose vaccine at a vaccination center here, as a part of the country's vaccination campaign.

"I came to be vaccinated with this vaccine, the Sinopharm, because I have faith, not just in this vaccine, but in all vaccines," said Castillo.
