Syrian president meets with Iran’s supreme leader

MOSCOW, February 25. /TASS/. /TASS/. Syrian President Bashar Assad has paid a working visit to Tehran and met with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, SANA news agency reported on Monday citing the president’s press service.

The Syrian leader congratulated Khamenei on the 40th anniversary of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, which resulted in building "a powerful state that is capable of realizing the interests of its people and standing against foreign interventions."

Paris terror attacker Fabien Clain killed in Syria, brother Jean-Michel wounded

PARIS, Feb. 21, 2019 -- French national Fabien Clain has been killed during an air strike by the international coalition on a holdout of IS group in Syria, state-run radio France Info reported on Thursday.

Known as the "official voice" of the French IS group, Clain was killed on Wednesday following an air strike which targeted the cell's last pocket of resistance in Baghouz near the Iraqi border. His brother, Jean-Michel, was seriously wounded, the report added.

US-backed Syrian forces hand over IS fighters to Iraq

21 Feb 2019; DW: The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces on Thursday handed over more than 150 Iraqi and foreign Islamic State (IS) fighters and their families to Iraq, according to Iraqi military sources and a local mayor.

Ten trucks transported the IS fighters and their families to Iraq where they are in a "safe place" and being investigated, an Iraqi security official said. 

Syrian medical engineering student develops prosthetic hand

HAMA, Syria, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Ali Bakeer, a medical engineering student in Syria, has developed a prosthetic hand meant to help the disabled people who suffered injuries during the war.

Born in the town of Rabia in the central province of Hama, the 22-year-old man, who is a third-year college student, said he had a strong interest in electronics as a boy.

The idea of creating the prosthetic hand was driven by the needs of the injured during the war, according to Bakeer.

UN condemns deadly bombings in Idlib of Syria

UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations condemns the bombings in the city of Idlib in northwestern Syria, which caused civilian deaths and injuries, a UN spokesperson said Tuesday.

In the bombings on Monday, at least 17 people were reportedly killed in twin explosions in the al-Qusor neighborhood in Idlib, and nearly 100 people reportedly injured, including civilians and aid volunteers, Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN secretary-general, said at a press briefing.

Syria’s constitution not a bargaining chip - Assad

TASS, February 17. Syria remains committed to dialogue to find a solution to the crisis, but will not allow its constitution to become a bargaining chip, Syrian President Bashar Assad said at a meeting with heads of local councils on Sunday.

"We will not allow the hostile states to achieve any of their objectives through their agents who hold the Syrian nationality," Syria’s SANA news agency said citing the president.

UN humanitarian office hails aid delivery to Syria's Rukban

UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Friday hailed the successful delivery of aid to a remote makeshift settlement in Rukban on the Syria-Jordan border.

The United Nations and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent on Thursday completed a nine-day mission to Rukban, delivering much-needed humanitarian assistance to more than 40,000 displaced people, said OCHA in a press release.

70 civilians killed, wounded by U.S.-led attack in eastern Syria

DAMASCUS, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- A total of 70 civilians were killed and wounded Tuesday by a U.S.-led airstrike in eastern Syria, state TV reported.

The airstrikes targeted a camp for displaced people in the eastern countryside of Deir al-Zour.

The airstrikes have intensified recently on Islamic State (IS)-held areas in the eastern Euphrates river region.

On Saturday, the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) started on the final stage of attacks against the IS in the eastern Euphrates river region in eastern Syria.

Syrian authorities to evacuate 4,000 families from damaged buildings in Aleppo

DAMASCUS, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian authorities will evacuate 4,000 families from damaged buildings in Aleppo city in northern Syria, following the death of 11 civilians when their building collapsed recently, a pro-government newspaper reported Monday.

The authorities will secure alternative housing to the 4,000 families which are living in around 10,000 damaged buildings in Aleppo, said al-Watan newspaper.

It added that measure will help the people until their homes are fixed or rebuilt.

U.S.-led coalition targets Syrian military post in eastern Syria

DAMASCUS, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The U.S.-led coalition targeted a Syrian artillery in eastern Syria overnight Saturday, wounding two soldiers, the Syrian state TV reported.

U.S.-led warplanes struck the Syrian artillery west of the al-Bukamal city in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour, leading to its destruction, according to the report.

It is not the first time the United States has targeted Syrian military posts in Syria.

In December, the U.S.-led coalition fired several missiles on military sites in central Syria, causing damage.
