Yemen: UAE-backed separatist group announces self-rule in south

26 April 2020; MEMO: Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC) has declared self-governance and a state of emergency in Aden and southern provinces, Anadolu reports.

The STC said the state of emergency would take effect at midnight Saturday.

Foreign Minister Mohamed al-Hadrami urged Saudi Arabia, as a guarantor of the Riyadh Agreement, to intervene against what he described as the STC’s “rebellion” in the southern provinces.

Four Journalists In Yemen Sentenced To Death By Houthi Court On Spying Charges

SANA’A, April 15 (NNN-SABA) – A court run by Yemen’s Houthi rebels sentenced four journalists to death, after their conviction on spying charges, their lawyer said.

The four were among a group of 10 journalists detained by the Iran-backed rebels and accused of “collaborating with the enemy,” in reference to the Saudi-led coalition, that has been at war with the Houthis since 2015, Abdel-Majeed Sabra, said.

Yemen: World Food Programme to cut aid by half in Houthi-controlled areas

ADEN, April 10 (NNN-AGENCIES) —The World Food Programme is set to halve aid to parts of Yemen’s Houthi-controlled areas due to a funding crisis.

The UN says some donors have stopped their aid over concerns that deliveries were being obstructed by Houthi forces.

From mid-April, families will get aid every other month, instead of monthly.

The war in Yemen has been described as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. More than 100,000 people are reported to have died.

Yemen's gov't forces claim killing 25 Houthi fighters in ambush

ADEN, Yemen, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's government forces declared on Saturday that 25 Houthi fighters were killed during an armed ambush in the country's northeastern province of Marib.

The government forces lured groups of the Houthi rebels into a well-prepared armed ambush in Sirwah district located in the western part of Marib, the state-run Saba News Agency reported.

"The ambush resulted in the killing of more than 25 members of the Houthi rebels and wounding several others while the rest of them escaped under the army's strikes," the report said.

UAE-backed militants in Aden steal medical aid sent by WHO

31 Mar 2020; MEMO: Militants loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Yemen are reported to have stormed into the southern port of Aden and stolen medical aid donated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as part of a package to help deal with the coronavirus pandemic. A source in the Yemeni Ministry of Health said that gunmen stole nine ambulances provided by the WHO.

2 Yemeni ministers resign from cabinet

ADEN, Yemen, March 28 (Xinhua) -- The Saudi-backed Yemeni government's two ministers on Saturday submitted resignations to the Yemen's President Abdu-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

Yemeni Minister of Transportation Saleh Jubwani and Minister of Civil Services Nabil Faqih submitted their resignations to protest against the performance of the country's Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik, said official statements released by their offices.

On Thursday, the Yemeni prime minster issued a decision to suspend Jubwani from his work over serious violations.
