Inflation in India Highest in June; Industrial Production Slows

New Delhi, July 12 : Retail inflation rate accelerated to a five-month high of 5.0 percent in June, government data showed on Thursday, driven by higher fuel prices and a depreciating rupee.

June was the eighth straight month in which inflation was higher than the central bank's medium-term target of 4 percent. Economists polled by news agency Reuters had forecast June's annual increase in the consumer price index at 5.30 percent, compared with May's 4.87 percent. 

India’s Ministry of Human Resources gives Institute of Eminence award to non-existent institute

Ministry of Human Resources has decided to give Institute of eminence (IoE) award to Jio Institute, which does not exists.

The Jio institute will be owned by the Reliance Foundation, and will start in 3 years time. It has been learnt that The Government of India will provide 1000 crores funding to this privately held institute.

In a statement issued on July 10, Students Federation of India called it a “daylight robbery of public resource”.

Drugs abuse among children: SC asks Centre to curb menace

PTI; New Delhi, Jul 8 : The issue of growing menace of drug abuse among children has come up again before the Supreme Court which asked the Centre to apprise it of steps taken to comply with its 2016 verdict that had directed measures including formulation of a national action plan to combat it.

Canadian girl raped in Delhi

New Delhi, June 28, 2018;  As reported by The Hindu newspaper, “A 20-year-old Canadian national was allegedly raped by a 25-year-old man at a guest house in the Capital on Tuesday night.”

A senior police officer name the accused as “Abhishek”. “He invited the woman to the guest house and allegedly raped her there”, said the officer.

According to the officer, “the manager of the guest house, met the victim at a restaurant in Hauz Khas Village on Tuesday evening and befriended her.” reported The Hindu.

India is the most dangerous country for women

25 June 2018; Thomson Reuters Foundation has found India to be the most dangerous country for women. Seven years ago India ranked fifth, according to the foundation.

In their survey of about 550 experts on women's issues, conducted online, by phone and in person between March 26 and May 4, 2018 across Europe, Africa, the Americas, South East Asia, South Asia and the Pacific, India was found to be most dangerous country for women.

The survey questions were based on following criteria;

Retail inflation hits 4 month high at 4.87% in May

PTI; New Delhi, June 12 : Retail inflation jumped to 4-month high of 4.87 per cent in May on costlier food items such as fruits, vegetables and cereals coupled with high fuel rates.

Based on Consumer Price Index (CPI), the retail inflation was at 4.58 per cent in the preceding month, April. In May 2017, however, it was at a low of 2.18 per cent.

 

The previous high in retail inflation was in January this year at 5.7 per cent.

India successfully test fires nuclear-capable Agni-5 (N)

BALASORE: India on Sunday Successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable Long Range Ballistic Missile Agni-5 with a strike range of 5,000 km from Dr Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.

The surface-to-surface missile was launched with the help of a mobile launcher from launch pad-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Dr Abdul Kalam Island in the Bay of Bengal at 9.48 am, defence sources said.

This was the sixth trial of the state-of-the-art Agni-5. The missile covered its full distance during the trial which was a total success, they said.
