Kuwait encourages citizens to leave UK over Omicron surge

03 Jan 2022; MEMO: The Kuwaiti embassy in the United Kingdom has encouraged its citizens to leave the country due to a "significant and unprecedented" increase in Omicron cases there, Kuwait's state news agency, KUNA reported on Sunday.

The embassy warned in a statement that the rising figures may lead to the imposition of new restrictions including a national lockdown and irregular air traffic.

Kuwait Launches Science Exhibition To Develop Children’s Talents

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 17 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwait launched yesterday, the fourth children’s science exhibition in Hawalli Governorate, to develop children’s talents.

Organised by Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), the exhibition aims to encourage children, aged six to 12, to develop and practice scientific research and discover their scientific talents, in order to develop their skills, to serve the future of Kuwait, Abdulmohsen Al-Haroon, KISR’s CEO for Marketing and Commercialisation Sector, said.

Kuwait bans entry of ships carrying goods to and from Israel

05 Dec 2021; MEMO: Kuwait has issued a decree banning the entry of commercial vessels carrying goods to and from Israel from its territorial waters.

The Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Rana Al-Faris, announced the ban yesterday.

Kuwait’s Armed Forces Prepared For Any Emergency: PM

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwait’s armed forces remain prepared for any emergency, Kuwaiti Prime Minister, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said, yesterday.

He made the remarks during a visit to the land troops of the Kuwaiti Army, at Al-Udaire’ training range, in Jahra Governorate.

During the visit, the prime minister watched a drill carried out by the ground forces, with the new tank M1A2K, and was briefed about its specifications, and capacities to operate in various surroundings and terrains.

Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah Appointed As Kuwait’s PM

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 24 (NNN-KUNA) – Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, was appointed yesterday, as Kuwait’s new prime minister.

Kuwaiti Crown Prince, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, issued an order on behalf of the emir, appointing Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, to form a new government and provide a list of names for approval.

On Nov 8, the Kuwaiti government submitted resignation to the emir. On Nov 14, the emir accepted the resignation.

Kuwait concludes "Gulf Shooting 2021" exercise with Saudi Arabia, U.S.

KUWAIT CITY, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait concluded on Thursday the "Gulf Shooting 2021" exercise with the participation of Saudi and U.S. forces, said Sheikh Thamer Al-Ali Al-Sabah, Kuwaiti Interior Minister and Acting Defense Minister.

The joint drill constitutes deterrence against any party with ill intentions against Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, in addition to reflecting interaction and cooperation among Kuwaiti, Saudi and U.S. military forces, the minister said in a statement.

Kuwait asks 100 expatriates, mostly Lebanese, to leave

17 Nov 2021; MEMO: Kuwait yesterday asked some 100 expatriates, mostly Lebanese citizens, to leave the country with their families as soon as their residency permits expire, Al-Qabas newspaper reported.

The paper said the State Security Authority had put the names of the expatriates on the black list of people who are prevented from renewing their residency permits once they expire.

Kuwait Committed To Unity, Stability Of Yemen: FM

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 16 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwait is committed to the unity and stability of Yemen and restoring its security and safety, Kuwait’s Foreign Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, said yesterday.

The minister made the remarks during a meeting with visiting UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg.

He also stressed his country’s support for international efforts, Saudi Arabia’s peace initiative in Yemen, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, to end the crisis in Yemen, and tackle the deteriorating humanitarian situation.

Kuwait's emir grants pardons and reduced sentences to dissidents

KUWAIT, Nov 13 (Reuters) - Kuwait's emir issued two decrees on Saturday granting pardons and reduced sentences to 35 dissidents, meeting a key demand of opposition lawmakers locked in a months-long standoff with the government.

Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah paved the way in October for an amnesty for politicians and former MPs, which the opposition has made a condition to end a political impasse holding up planned fiscal reforms in the wealthy Gulf state.
