Kuwait to send firefighters to Turkey against forest fires

08 Aug 2021; AA: Kuwait is set to dispatch a team of firefighters to Turkey on Sunday to help in the fight against forest fires that killed at least eight people.

The 45-strong team will be dispatched to Turkey upon orders from Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad to assist in putting out the fires, according to the official news agency KUNA.

KUNA said another team will be sent to Greece on Monday to help in countering the wildfires there.

Kuwait starts to receive vaccinated expats after months-long entry ban

KUWAIT CITY, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Kuwait Airport started on Sunday to receive vaccinated expatriates after months of entry ban.

Abdullah Al-Bakhsh, monitor of Projects and Planning in the Engineering Department of Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation, said in a statement that the first flights carrying expats arrived at midnight.

The Kuwait Airport has received eight flights carrying 739 people on board in nine hours since the entry ban was lifted, he added.

U.S. “Fully Prepared” To Continue Negotiation With Iran

KUWAIT CITY, Jul 30 (NNN-KUNA) – Washington is fully prepared to continue negotiation with Iran, to return to the Iranian nuclear agreement, visiting U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said here yesterday.

Blinken made the remarks, after he met with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, to discuss bilateral ties and regional issues.

Blinken said that, the United States is willing to reach an agreement with Iran, urging Iran to make the decision, adding that, “the ball is in Iran’s court.”

WHO chief says to enhance cooperation with Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) will enhance cooperation with Kuwait to face health challenges, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the organization said here on Wednesday.

At a press conference held in Kuwait City, the visiting WHO chief expressed appreciation to Kuwait for its pioneering humanitarian role in supporting the organization and its health activities.

"I visited the WHO office in Kuwait that was opened last month, which was a milestone in our partnership," he said.

Kuwait To Build Logistics Cities To Attract Foreign Investment

KUWAIT CITY, Jul 26 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwait plans to establish logistic cities to support local economy and attract foreign investment, Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) announced yesterday.

Sheikh Yousef Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, KPA Director-General, said, these cities will be built on an area of two million square metres and designed by global design agencies, to ensure high standards that will support e-commerce.

Kuwait arrests poet activist for 'insulting' emir, family says

07 July 2021; MEMO: Kuwaiti authorities arrested a political activist and prominent poet over tweets criticising the government, his family said on Wednesday, as a political crisis between the government and opposition weighs on the wealthy Gulf state, Reuters reports.

Jamal Al-Sayer, also a businessman, has been charged with "insulting the emir, spreading fake news that could harm the state's image and misusing his mobile phone", Muhannad Al- Sayer, his nephew and his lawyer, told Reuters.

Kuwait starts to prevent unvaccinated from entering shopping malls to contain COVID-19

KUWAIT CITY, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait started on Sunday to implement a government's decision to allow only vaccinated citizens and residents to visit shopping malls, salons, gyms, and restaurants in the country.

Malls in the Arab country witnessed on Sunday morning armed forces at their entrances who will help the implementation of the decision to prevent unvaccinated people from entering, except for pregnant women, those under 16 years, and those with a medical excuse.

Kuwait approves $76bn state budget with focus on job support

24 June 2021; MEMO: Kuwait's parliament approved the 2021-22 state budget on Tuesday focusing on job support as the country witnessed record annual job losses earlier this year.

Finance Minister Khalifa Hamada said 71.6 per cent of expenditure is allocated for job support, the state news agency KUNA reported.

The budget estimates a revenue of $36 billion.

Kuwait launches urgent public aid campaign for Palestine

20 May 2021; MEMO: Kuwait yesterday launched a public aid campaign to support the Palestinian people, amid the ongoing Israeli aggression against them.

The announcement came in a joint press conference by Assistant Undersecretary for Social Development at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Social Affairs, Hana Al-Hajri, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Cooperation, Nasser Al-Subaih, and Palestinian Ambassador Rami Tahboub.
