NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — War-torn South Sudan is “barreling toward a crisis” and could slide back into fighting, warned the International Crisis Group on Monday.

The new report said the country’s warring parties aren’t ready to form a coalition government on November 12th, when opposition leader Riek Machar is planned to return and once again serve as President Salva Kiir’s deputy, as part of a power sharing agreement to pull the country out of a five-year civil war that killed almost 400,000 people.

JUBA (Reuters) - South Sudan’s main opposition accused the government on Wednesday of failing to push through a peace deal and called for a six-month delay in the formation of a unity administration, casting a shadow over efforts to end years of fighting.

The spokesman for former rebel leader Riek Machar said he did not believe he would be able to join a unity government on Nov. 12 - a deadline agreed in September after months of talks, broken ceasefires and pressure from the United Nations, the United States and regional powers.

JUBA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan on Thursday launched its first manual to offer psychosocial support services to help rehabilitate and reintegrate thousands of former child soldiers during the five years conflict.

Jean Lieby, Chief of Child Protection of UN Children Fund (UNICEF) , said the facilitator manual of psychosocial support activities and trainers guide will help them reach 150,000 out of 1 million former child soldiers including girls this year alone.

6 Sep 2019; MEMO: South Sudan’s president on Thursday called on people to stop war and focus on peace and development in the country, Anadolu Agency reports.

“Let us not talk about war in the country but speak about peace and development. War used to destroy the country and we have seen it as our people are suffering now,” Salva Kiir said at the 64th Veterans Day Celebration ceremony.

Kiir called on youth in the country to unite and stop tribalism.

Since coming to South Sudan a year ago, Zhu Ming, an anesthesiologist who is tasked with perioperative care of patients before and after surgery has won the hearts of many South Sudanese health workers because of his readiness to share knowledge and interact freely with locals.

JUBA, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government on Thursday donated about 9,660 tonnes of rice to South Sudan to assist civilians at risk of starvation in the world's youngest nation, which is in the process of reconstruction after nearly five years of civil strife.

Manasseh Lomole, chairperson of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, said the first batch of Chinese rice has already arrived in the capital Juba and the remainder will be delivered later.

The food donation will be channelled to returnees, internally displaced people and survivors of floods and drought.
