Rahmon and Putin noted need to strengthen protection of Tajik-Afghan border

DUSHANBE, December 21. /TASS/: President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Russia Vladimir Putin held a meeting where they stressed the need to strengthen defense of the Tajik-Afghan border. The meeting was held in St. Petersburg on the sidelines of an extraordinary meeting of the heads of state of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), press service of the leader of Tajikistan said on Saturday.

Attack on Tajik border outpost carried out by IS militants, intelligence agency said

DUSHANBE, November 6. /TASS/: An attack on an outpost on the Tajik-Uzbek border was carried out by militants of the Islamic State (terror group, outlawed in Russia), who had come from Afghanistan, Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security said on Wednesday.

"They [the attackers - TASS] crossed the border from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan with a special task, all of them are members of the IS terror group," the intelligence agency said in a statement.

State Duma Chairman discusses economy and security cooperation with Tajikistan leader

DUSHANBE, October 19. /TASS/: Russia’s State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin on Saturday discussed economic cooperation with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe, as well as security issues.

According to Volodin, Rahmon’s visit to the State Duma in April of this year "gave impetus" to the development of bilateral relations. "We began to communicate more within the parliamentary dimension," he said.

Man who wounded two Russian contract soldiers in Tajikistan detained

DUSHANBE, September 22. /TASS/: A citizen of Tajikistan’s city of Bokhtar, who attacked two servicemen of a Russian military base, has been apprehended and a criminal investigation has been launched, Spokesman for the Central Asian state’s Interior Ministry Umardjon Emomali told TASS.

"A local citizen, who is accused of injuring two Russian servicemen of the 201st Russian military base, located in Bokhtar, in the Khatlon region, has been detained and is under investigation," the spokesman said.

Putin emphasized need to launch political reforms in Syria

DUSHANBE, June 15. /TASS/: Improving the situation in Syria requires political reforms, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, addressing the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Tajikistan’s capital of Dushanbe on Saturday.

"We believe that stabilizing the situation in Syria is crucial for ensuring security in our region," Putin noted. "It is important to pave the way for political reforms in the country as quickly as possible," he added.

32 dead after IS inmates riot in Tajikistan

20 May 2019; DW: Three prison guards and 29 inmates have been killed after a riot broke out at a high-security prison in Tajikistan. It is the second deadly prison disturbance in the country in the space of six months.

Convicted Islamic State (IS) militants detained in a high-security prison in the Tajik city of Vahdat killed three guards and five fellow prisoners, the country's justice ministry said on Monday. 

Russia to announce anti-terrorist initiatives at G20 summit

DUSHANBE, May 17./TASS/: Russia will announce new anti-terrorist initiatives at the upcoming G20 summit, work on them is underway, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov told TASS on Friday.

"They [initiatives] are being prepared at the moment, I am not yet ready to say exactly what kind of initiatives these will be, we still have a month-and-a-half before the G20 [summit]," the diplomat added.
