Cambodia About To Graduate From Least Developed Country Status: ADB

PHNOM PENH, Jun 2 (NNN-AKP) – Two decades after its inclusion on the list of the least developed countries, Cambodia met the graduation criteria for the first time in 2021, with plans to graduate as early as 2027, said an Asian Development Bank (ADB) report today.

“This is a major achievement, as graduation from the least developed country status means, a country has achieved significant economic and social development goals,” the report said.

Cambodian, Singaporean Firms Sign Joint Venture Deal To Form Aircraft MRO Services In Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, May 31 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia Airport Investment Co., Ltd (CAIC), yesterday signed a joint venture agreement, with Singapore’s SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC), to form aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services in Cambodia.

Under the agreement, CAIC will hold a 49 percent equity stake in the joint venture, with SIAEC holding 51 percent, said a joint statement.

Cambodian parliament ratifies ASEAN trade in services agreement

PHNOM PENH, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The National Assembly of Cambodia on Tuesday ratified the ASEAN Trade in Services Agreement (ATISA) to boost trade and investment in the area of services.

Some 98 lawmakers in attendance unanimously ratified the pact, which was signed by ASEAN economic ministers in Jakarta, Indonesia in October 2020.

ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Cambodian PM’s son, tipped to succeed him, gets promotion

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — Cambodian army chief Hun Manet, who is widely expected to replace his father as the country’s prime minister later this year, was promoted Thursday to his country’s highest military rank.

Prime Minister Hun Sen, 71, explicitly declared his support in December 2021 to have the United States Military Academy-trained Hun Manet succeed him through constitutional means. In mid-March, Hun Sen hinted strongly that he intends to step down when a new government is installed after July’s general election.

Cambodian, Chinese central banks discuss local currency settlement for cross-border trade

PHNOM PENH, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian and Chinese central bank officials have discussed the promotion of local currency settlement for cross-border trade between the two countries, said a statement released by the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) on Saturday.

The talks were held between NBC's Deputy Governor Chea Serey and Xuan Changneng, vice governor of the People's Bank of China, on the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia in South China's Hainan province.

Cambodian Parliament Convened Plenary Session After Three-Month Break

PHNOM PENH, Mar 30 (NNN-AKP) – The National Assembly of Cambodia today began its ninth plenary session of the sixth legislature after a three-month recess.

Some 105 lawmakers took part in the session.

Nation’s King, Norodom Sihamoni, sent a royal message to mark the opening session, praising the legislators for adopting 109 draft laws in the sixth legislature (2018-2023).

After the opening session, the National Assembly also ratified the treaty on the delimitation of the state border between Cambodia and Laos.

Malaysian Pm Anwar Arrives In Cambodia, Official Visit To Strengthen Ties

PHNOM PENH (Cambodia), March 27 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Cambodia Monday for a one-day official visit to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and the Indochinese country, established in 1957.

It is Anwar’s maiden visit to the country made at the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Malaysia, Cambodia sign pacts on Cambodian workers

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — Malaysia and Cambodia signed two agreements on Monday on the employment of Cambodian migrant workers, as Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim made his first visit to Phnom Penh since becoming his country’s leader in November.

Anwar was accompanied by his ministers of foreign affairs, religious affairs and human resources, Malaysia’s foreign ministry said ahead of his one-day trip.

He held talks Monday morning with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and was to meet with King Norodom Sihamoni and top lawmakers later in the day.
