Cambodian PM Embarks On Official Visit To Laos

PHNOM PENH, Feb 13 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, left here this morning, for a two-day official visit to neighbouring Laos, a senior official said.

Sry Thamarong, a minister attached to the prime minister, said that, in Vientiane, Hun Sen will hold bilateral talks with his Laotian counterpart, Sonexay Siphandone, to discuss ways to further enhance bilateral ties in all areas.

Cambodia PM orders closure of independent radio station

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — One of Cambodia’s last free media outlets, Voice of Democracy radio, ceased operations on Monday after Prime Minister Hun Sen ordered its closure for allegedly slandering his son in a story.

The story, which was also published on the website of VoD, as the station is better known, said that Hun Sen’s son, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, had signed a donation on his father’s behalf of $100,000 for Turkey earthquake relief.

Cambodian PM orders revocation of license of West-backed radio over slanderous broadcast

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Sunday ordered the Ministry of Information to revoke the license of the West-backed VOD (Voice of Democracy) radio for spreading "slanderous" information.

"To protect the government's honor, I decided to end this case, allowing the Ministry of Information to cancel the license of the VOD radio from now onwards and the radio station must stop broadcasting by 10:00 a.m. local time on Feb. 13, 2023 onwards," the prime minister wrote on his official Facebook page.

Cambodia's ruling party fully supports Hun Sen as PM candidate for general election

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) concluded its extraordinary congress on Sunday, voicing its full support for the candidacy of incumbent Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen to run for a new five-year term in the July general election.

The extraordinary congress "fully supports Samdech Techo Hun Sen as the Prime Minister candidate for the seventh legislature of the National Assembly and supports His Excellency Hun Manet as the future Prime Minister candidate," said a party's resolution.

Ukrainians wrap up landmine clearance exercises in Cambodia

SIEM REAP, Cambodia (AP) — A group of 15 Ukrainian deminers on Friday wrapped up a week of training in Cambodia, where experts who have cleared minefields from one of the world’s most contaminated countries shared their expertise with the relative newcomers to the dangerous job.

Cambodia is still strewn with mines from three decades of war and internal conflicts that ended in 1998, while the problem in Ukraine is a new one since the Russian invasion last year.

Cambodia Arrested Five Men For Trafficking 19 Kg Narcotics: Police

PHNOM PENH, Jan 17 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia’s anti-drug police arrested a gang of five local men, for allegedly trafficking illicit drugs, seizing over 19 kilograms of narcotics, the Anti-Drug Police Department (ADP) said, in a news release today.

The suspects, aged between 34 and 41 years old, were apprehended during raids on three locations in Kampong Speu and Banteay Meanchey provinces, on Jan 8 and 9, after a thorough investigation for months.

Cambodia expects 4 mln int'l tourists this year after China's pandemic strategy optimization

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia is projected to receive 4 million international tourists in 2023 after China's optimization of its COVID-19 strategy early this month, a tourism official said on Tuesday.

Cambodian PM highlights close ties with China

Work on China-funded national roads begins in Cambodia's southwestern provinces

KAMPOT, Cambodia, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Friday broke ground for the reconstruction and upgrading of two national roads with funds from China to cope with growing flows of travel and cargo transport.

The roads included National Road No. 31 in the length of 53.5 km connecting Takeo province with Kampot province, and National Road No. 33 in the length of 52.6 km linking Kampot town with Kep province.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian presided over the groundbreaking ceremony.
