Israel warns vacationing Israelis to leave Egypt's Sinai "immediately" over terror threats

JERUSALEM, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Israel on Tuesday warned Israelis vacationing in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula to leave "immediately," citing threats of terror attacks.

The official warning was released by Israel's Counter-Terrorism Bureau hours after the Islamic State (IS) militant group claimed responsibility for the recent bombing attacks in Sri Lanka, which claimed the lives of at least 321 people and injured hundreds of others.

China, Croatia to enhance cultural, tourism cooperation

ZAGREB, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said Wednesday that the two countries will enhance cultural and tourism cooperation.

Li and Plenkovic made the remarks when speaking at the opening ceremony of the Year of Tourism between China and Croatia.

Congratulating the two countries on jointly holding such an event for the first time, Li said both China and Croatia enjoy long history and rich and colorful culture, and picturesque natural scenery.

Airbnb reverses, will allow listings in Israeli settlements

San Francisco (AP) - Airbnb is rescinding its plan to bar listings in Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

The home-sharing company announced in November that it would remove about 200 listings in the West Bank, which is territory claimed by Palestinians. Airbnb said Tuesday it will now allow properties in Israeli settlements to be listed, but will donate all of its profits from properties in the West Bank to humanitarian aid organizations.

Dutchman concludes 95,000km 'world's longest electric car trip'

SYDNEY, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Dutchman Wiebe Wakker pulled into Sydney on Sunday having traveled 95,000 km over three years in his fully electric powered car.

In a journey which took him across 33 countries including Turkey, Iran, India and Malaysia, Wakker hoped to prove the viability of electric vehicles and spread a message of sustainability.

While not officially a world record, due to the car being modified for electric power, the 95,000-km distance is reportedly the longest ever driven in an electric vehicle.

EU will allow UK citizens visa-free access

LONDON (AP) — European Union lawmakers say British citizens should be allowed to travel in Europe visa-free after Brexit but only if the U.K. grants the same right to EU citizens, as the bloc prepares for Britain’s possible departure without a deal.

The EU’s Civil Liberties Committee voted overwhelmingly Wednesday — 38 votes in favor, 8 against and 3 abstentions — to allow tourism or business trips.

L.A.'s outlet mall ready to serve Chinese tourists

LOS ANGELES, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Citadel Outlets, the only outlet mall in the western U.S. city of Los Angeles and a destination for more than 100,000 Chinese visitors last year, announced Tuesday the opening of the city's only California Welcome Center at the shopping center to enhance and enrich tourists' visit in Southern California.

World's largest underwater restaurant opens in Norway

21 Mar 2019; DW: The "Under" restaurant is five meters (16 feet) under water at Spangereid on Norway's southern tip.

"Under" also means "wonder" in Norwegian. It opened on Wednesday for friends and family of the owners, with the first paying guests expected in April. 

It is Europe's first and the world's largest underwater restaurant, with seating for 100 guests.

Brunei holds int'l kite festival to revive traditional past time

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah officially launched the International Kite Festival on Sunday with some 200 kiting enthusiasts expected to participate in the event.

The Sultan made his way to the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, a riverfront public park in the capital, where he inaugurated the event before trying his hand at flying one kite. He also toured the exhibits and mingled with the crowd.

Pakistan softens, simplifies visa process to attract tourists, businessmen

ISLAMABAD, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the country's new online visa system here on Thursday to soften, simplify and quicken the visa process to facilitate visit by foreign tourists and business people.

Addressing the launching ceremony, the prime minister said new visa system is a significant change in Pakistan's policy which will speed up the visa process to open Pakistan's doors to the world, making it more accessible to tourists and investors from across the globe.

World's oldest temple site opens in Turkey

SANLIURFA, 8 Mar 2019; AA: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday inaugurated the ruins of what is thought to be the world's oldest temple.  

“Turkey is an open-air museum,” said Erdogan, speaking at a ceremony at the Gobeklitepe archaeological site located in Turkey's southeastern province of Sanliurfa.

Erdogan added that archaeological research should be promoted in order to uncover more historical artifacts and sites in Anatolia region.
