French FM says resolving Libya crisis is priority for France

TUNIS, Jan 10 (NNN-Xinhua) — French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said resolving the crisis in Libya is a real priority for France and the Middle East region.

Speaking to reporters after meeting in Tunis with Tunisian President Kais Saied, Le Drian said they discussed the latest developments in Libya, while stressing that France agreed with Tunisia’s call for respect for international legitimacy.

“The stability of Libya is real priority for our two countries,” said the French top diplomat.

Tunisian PM-designate unveils lineup of new cabinet

TUNIS, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Prime Minister-designate Habib Jemli announced on Thursday the lineup of his government that will be submitted to the parliament for approval.

The new cabinet is composed of 42 members, including 25 ministers, three ministers to the prime minister, and 14 secretaries of state.

Imed Derouiche will be the defense minister, Sofiene Sliti, the interior minister, Khaled Sehili, the foreign minister, and Abderrahmen Khachtali, the finance minister.

Tunisia's PM-designate submits proposed cabinet to president

TUNIS, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Prime Minister-designate Habib Jemli said on Wednesday that he had offered the lineup of his new government to President Kais Saied.

"The names of the government ministers will be announced to the public on Thursday," Jemli said during a press conference in the capital city of Tunis.

The government will be submitted to parliament for a vote of confidence. It has to obtain a majority of 109 out of a total of 217 possible votes.

China Donates Materials, Equipment To Promote Child Welfare In Tunisia

TUNIS, Jan 1 (NNN-TAP) – China signed an agreement with Tunisia, to donate materials and equipment to Tunisian establishments, operating for the country’s children.

The agreement was signed at an official ceremony in Tunisia’s capital, Tunis, by Tunisian Minister of Women, Family, Children and the Elderly Affairs, Naziha Laabidi and Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia, Wang Wenbin, in the presence of Lila Peters, representative of UNICEF in Tunisia.

The Chinese donation will strengthen and develop the information system of early childhood centres in Tunisia.

Turkish President Pays Surprise Visit To Tunisia Over Libyan Issue

TUNIS, Dec 26 (NNN-XINHUA) – Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, arrived in Tunisia Wednesday, in a surprise visit to meet with his Tunisian counterpart, Kaies Saied.

“The Libyan issue will be at the top of the agenda for this surprise visit, in addition to bilateral discussions on major investment projects,” said Rachida Ennaifer, adviser to the Tunisian presidency.

Huawei awards prizes to Tunisian ICT students, instructors

TUNIS, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese tech giant Huawei on Friday organized a ceremony in Tunisia's capital Tunis to honor students and instructors from the programs of Huawei ICT Academy and Seeds for the Future 2019 program.

The event was attended by Tunisian Minister of Education Hatem Ben Salem, Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia Wang Wenbin, and General Director of Huawei in Tunisia Zhang Qian as well as professors and students in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Habib Jemli assigned to form Tunisian gov't

TUNIS, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- President Kais Saied officially approved Habib Jemli on Friday to form the new government, according to a statement by the Tunisian presidency.

Jemli was the candidate of Tunisia's Islamist party Ennahdha, the party that won the parliamentary elections on Oct. 6, 2019.

The future prime minister should form his government within a period not exceeding one month from Friday in accordance with the constitution.

An agronomist, Jemli was born on March 28, 1959 in Kairouan, a province of central Tunisia. He is married and has four children.

Tunisia: Ennahda nominates Ghannouchi as parliament speaker

11 Nov 2019; MEMO: Tunisia’s Ennahda movement has announced that it has decided to nominate Rached Ghannouchi as speaker of the parliament.

Tunisian media quoted the chairman of Ennahda’s Shura Council, Abdelkarim Harouni, saying: “Ennahda insists on retaining its right to nominate the new Prime Minister from within the party, as well as the nomination of the movement’s President Rached Ghannouchi for the post of speaker of parliament.”

Political outsider Kais Saied sworn in as Tunisia's new president

TUNIS (Reuters) - Kais Saied, a political outsider and retired law professor, was sworn in as Tunisian president on Wednesday after he won a landslide victory in this month’s election.

Saied’s victory delivered a heavy blow to a governing elite accused of failing to improve living standards or end corruption since the 2011 revolution that introduced democracy and ushered in the North African country.
