AMMAN, June 23 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan and the Netherlands, on Monday, reaffirmed their rejection to Israel’s plan to annex Palestinian territories, according to the Jordanian foreign ministry.

The remarks were made during a phone call between Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and his Dutch counterpart, Stef Blok.

They examined the latest developments of the Palestinian cause, mainly Israeli threats to regional peace about annexing Palestinian lands.

AMMAN, June 16 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan, on Monday, took several measures to mitigate the impact of coronavirus on the tourism sector.

Under the new decisions, sales tax on the tourism sector was reduced from 16 percent to eight percent, and the government allocated 150 million dinars (around 210 million U.S. dollars) as financing programmes to help the tourism establishments.

As part of the financing programme, loans at low-interest rates will be extended to establishments working in the tourism sector, Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Majd Shwiekeh said.

08 June 2020; MEMO: The University of Jordan is facing a backlash on social media after it extended an invitation to an Israeli-American academic to give a lecture during an online workshop, the New Arab reports.

According to the report, a “pro-Palestine committee” has condemned the university, claiming the invitation is an attempt at normalisation.

03 June 2020; MEMO: Jordan’s foreign minister warned Tuesday of serious consequences in terms of his country’s relations with Tel Aviv and for peace in the region if Israel annexes parts of the West Bank and Jordan Valley, reports Anadolu Agency.

According to a statement from Jordan’s Foreign Ministry, Ayman Safadi took part in a ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee for aid to Palestinians via videoconference.

The remarks were made by Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, during a phone call with THE United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nickolay Mladenov, on Wednesday.

21 May 2020; MEMO: The Jordanian government announced yesterday that it was following up on the shooting of a Jordanian citizen by the Israeli army through official and diplomatic channels, Petra news agency reported.

Petra quoted an unnamed government source as saying that the 49-year-old was wounded at dawn yesterday by the Israeli army after he crossed the international border separating the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Israel in the northern region of Baqoura.

16 May 2020; MEMO: Jordanian king on Friday warned that if Israel annexes the West Bank, it would lead to a “massive conflict” with Jordan, Anadolu Agency reports.

“If Israel really annexes the West Bank in July, it would lead to a massive conflict with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,” King Abdullah II said in an interview with Der Spiegel.

“Leaders who advocate a one-state solution do not understand what that would mean,” he said, adding that there would be more chaos and extremism in the region.

14 May 2020; MEMO: The Jordanian Constitutional Court has ruled that it is illegal to cancel the natural gas deal signed with Israel, RT Arabic reported yesterday.

The court said that it would be “completely inconsistent” with obligations stipulated in the peace agreement between the two countries.

In a statement, the court said that the Jordanian Constitution stipulates that only the king can declare war or ratify treaties and agreements.

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) — Jordan’s Foreign Ministry said Thursday that Israeli farmers will no longer be allowed to work their fields in an enclave of southern Jordan, ending a more than 25-year arrangement meant to shore up a historic peace agreement.

The announcement reflects the poor relations between the countries, which have been underscored by Jordan’s vocal opposition to Israeli plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.
