China-ASEAN Economic Cooperation Contributes To Development, Prosperity In Region: Cambodian Official, Experts

PHNOM PENH, Sept 24 (NNN-AKP) – The economic cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), provided a lot of benefits to all, contributing to common development and prosperity in the region, Cambodian officials and experts said.

China and ASEAN became each other’s largest trading partner in 2020.

Trade between China and ASEAN reached 544.9 billion U.S. dollars in the first seven months of this year, 13.1 percent year on year, while the cumulative two-way investment exceeded 340 billion dollars, according to an official report.

Chinese survivors had no food, water on sinking boat

SIHANOUKVILLE, Cambodia (AP) — Chinese survivors from a boat that sank near a Cambodian island, killing three people and leaving eight missing, said they embarked on what they believed would be a short-term fishing job and ended up without food and water aboard the vessel and their belongings taken away.

Cambodian authorities said Friday they rescued 21 people a day after the boat small wooden fishing vessel sank near Koh Tang, a Cambodian island close to the maritime border with Vietnam.

Cambodia raises minimum wage for garment factory workers for 2023

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Wednesday set a new monthly minimum wage for workers in the country's garment, footwear and travel goods sector at some 200 U.S. dollars from 2023, up 3.09 percent from the current level of 194 U.S. dollars, Labor Minister Ith Samheng said.

The announcement came after the National Council for Minimum Wage voted on a minimum wage of about 198 U.S. dollars per month for next year, which was then added by 2 U.S. dollars by the government.

Cambodian PM Ordered Crackdown On All Types Of Illegal Gambling

PHNOM PENH, Sept 18 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, yesterday, ordered a nationwide crackdown on all types of illegal gambling, including lottery, cock fight and poker.

“I’d like to issue a strict order to all municipal or provincial governors, to take immediate action to suppress all types of illegal gambling,” he said, in a voice message, released publicly.

He also warned to sack any municipal or provincial governors or officials, who failed to curb illegal gambling in their respective localities.

Cambodia Issued First Gov’t Bond Of 24.3 Million USD

PHNOM PENH, Sept 7 (NNN-AKP) – The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), Cambodia’s central bank, today issued the first government bond of 100 billion riels (about 24.3 million U.S. dollars), aiming to raise funds for national development.

The bond is auctioned through the NBC’s platform from 8.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. local time, the NBC said, adding, the face value per unit is worth one million riels (about 243 dollars).

Cambodia Approved 123 Investment Projects In First Eight Months

PHNOM PENH, Sept 6 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia approved 123 fixed-asset investment projects, worth nearly 3.3 billion U.S. dollars, in the first eight months of this year, according to the Council for the Development of Cambodia’s report, today.

The approved projects, during the Jan-Aug period, included garment, footwear and travel goods factories, tire factory, hotels, hospitals, automobile assembly factory, electronic factory, and fruit processing and packaging factory, among others, the report said.

Cambodia Arrested 10,545 Drug-Related Suspects In First Eight Months

PHNOM PENH, Sept 2 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodian authorities arrested 10,545 drug-related suspects, including 154 foreigners, in 4,384 cases during the first eight months of this year, said an Anti-Drug Police Department (ADP)’s report, yesterday.

About half of the suspects were drug users, and the other half were drug traffickers, manufacturers and transporters, the report said.

Cambodia rescues 865 foreigners from human trafficking in Jan.-Aug.: interior minister

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia had rescued some 865 foreigners from human trafficking in 87 cases from Jan. 1 to Aug. 20, Interior Minister Sar Kheng said in a statement on Friday.

"A total of 60 human trafficking suspects in 17 cases had been sent to court," he said.

According to the results of research and interrogation, many of these foreigners were deceived via social media to cross borders illegally into Cambodia, with the promise of high-paying jobs, he said.

UNGA President hails Cambodia for its key contribution to UN peacekeeping missions

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Visiting President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Abdulla Shahid on Monday praised Cambodia for its key contribution to keeping peace in the world, according to a senior Cambodian official.

Shahid made the remarks during a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, said Eang Sophalleth, a personal assistant to Hun Sen.
