Tanzania-China trade volume significantly increases

MWANZA (Tanzania), Sept 11 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — BILATERAL trade between China and Tanzania has more than tripled in the last 10 years, with statistics indicating that the volume increased from 2.47 billion US dollars in 2012 to 8.31 billion US dollars in 2022.

The revelation was made by Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Chen Mingjian, during her tour to inspect two infrastructures namely Magufuli Bridge and the lot five of the Central Line Standard-Gauge Railway (SGR), which have been implemented by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

East Africa set to benefit from Ethiopia Brics entry

DAR ES SALAAM, Aug 31 (NNN-GNA) — The entry of Ethiopia into Brics is likely to spur increased trade and investment relations with the East African Community (EAC) bloc, according to Ethiopia’s ambassador to Tanzania.

The Horn of Africa country, the second most populous in sub Saharan Africa, is currently one of the fastest growing economies in the continent.

Shibru Mamo Kedida said Ethiopia’s entry into Brics would have a positive impact on the Horn of Africa and East Africa.

DAR ES SALAAM, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has called for concrete action to address the widening global North-South divide in a bid to create a just international economic order.

A statement issued late Thursday by the Directorate of Presidential Communications said President Hassan made the appeal during the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue, held on the sidelines of the Aug. 22-24 BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Opening the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Africa Chapter's training conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's economic hub, Majaliwa called on women police networks in African countries to sharpen their skills in fighting crime.

Tanzania promises good management of Canadian health funds

DODOMA, July 22 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — Tanzania has pledged good management of funds released by the Canadian government for the improvement of maternal health services, newborn’s, children and youth.

Minister for Health Ummy Mwalimu made the statement posted on her verified Twitter account @ummymwalimu, stating that Canada is a major contributor to the Health Basket Fund which is the main source of funds for dispensaries, health centers and council hospitals.

Tanzania: Coffee Board to introduce coffee online auction to increase competitiveness

DAR ES SALAAM, June 15 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — TANZANIA Coffee Board (TCB) is planning to introduce an online auction for coffee in a bid to increase efficiency and boost bidding competitiveness.

The online platform, dubbed ‘Centralized Green Coffee Auctions’, will increase both the number of coffee buyers and farmers’ earnings.

TCB Mbeya Regional Coffee Development Officer, Sijali Bowa said the online platform will change the current auction pattern from a weekly basis to daily one, while giving bidders access to the market at their fingertips.

World Bank approves 708bn/- for Tanzania food systems resilience programme

DAR ES SALAAM, June 4 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — THE World Bank has approved a financing of 300 million US dollars (about 708bn/-) for implementation of Tanzania Food Systems Resilience Programme, which is a Programme for Results (PforR) under International Development Association (IDA).

The financing is part of a Multiphase Programmatic Approach (MPA) aimed at increasing resilience of the food system that was launched in June 2022, with the aim of increasing food resilience systems and preparedness for food insecurity in the participating countries.
