DAR ES SALAAM, Aug 10 (NNN-KBC) – Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, yesterday wished neighbouring Kenyans, peaceful general elections, as they went to the polls, to vote for their leaders.

“I am praying God be with you (Kenyans), as you fulfil your constitutional right of getting leaders of your choice, in a peaceful environment, unity, harmony and solidarity,” President Hassan said, in her official tweet. “Wishing you all the best.”

President Hassan was inspecting the Njombe region in the country’s southern highlands.

DAR ES SALAAM, Aug 2 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Tanzania exported a record 10,000 tonnes of meat to the Middle East in the first six months of this year.

This offers prospects of a reliable market there as only 7,000 tonnes were exported during the whole of 2021.

“By December this year, the tonnage will certainly be double the amount exported until June,” said Livestock and Fisheries minister Mashimba Ndaki.

He revealed this during a regional meeting on meat production for the Southern Africa Development Community (Sadc) member states.

DAR ES SALAAM, May 18 (Xinhua) -- As Tanzania launched its second round of vaccination against polio Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) pledged to provide technical support and coordination for the vaccination campaigns.

The WHO said in a statement that it would provide technical support in collaboration with UNICEF and the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. The statement said the supplemental mass vaccination campaign will run from May 18 to May 21 in the country's 195 districts and will reach 10,576,805 children under 5.

DAR ES SALAAM, Nov 24 (Reuters) - Tanzania will now allow girls aged 12 to 19 years who left school due to pregnancy to resume formal education after giving birth, its education minister said on Wednesday, ending a ban on the return of such students which has been criticised by rights groups as discriminatory.

The move also departs from a June announcement by the ministry that secondary school dropouts, including girls who became pregnant while in school, would be able to resume studies in alternative colleges. 

DAR ES SALAAM, Nov 13 (NNN-IRIN) – Tanzanian Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, said yesterday, 10,361 villages out of the country’s 12,317 villages, have been connected to electricity by Oct, 2021.

Adjourning a two-week parliamentary session in the capital, Dodoma, Majaliwa said, the number of villages connected to electricity was equivalent to 84.12 percent of the East African nation’s villages.

DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian authorities said Saturday that between 80,000 and 100,000 people will be vaccinated against COVID-19 daily during the second phase of the inoculation campaign.

A statement by the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children said the permanent secretary in the ministry, Abel Makubi, revealed the acceleration of the vaccination in a meeting with regional medical officers and COVID-19 vaccination coordinators in the capital of Dodoma.
