DAR ES SALAAM, Oct 14 (NNN-GNA) — Kenya and Tanzania have agreed to strengthen border security through cooperation to weed out transboundary crime, including human and drug trafficking, terrorism and poaching.

Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu and Kenya’s President William Ruto made the announcement at a press briefing in Dar es Salaam following bilateral talks.

DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism has called for reinforcement toward the protection of wildlife corridors to lessen human-wildlife conflicts, the ministry said in a statement late Saturday.

The statement said the call was made by the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Juma Mkomi, in a meeting with wildlife conservation stakeholders in the northern city of Arusha.

DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The East African Community (EAC) secretariat on Thursday urged member states of the regional bloc to enhance emergency preparedness and response activities following an outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Uganda.

On Sept. 20, Uganda, one of the seven member states of the EAC, declared an outbreak of Ebola after a case of the Sudan ebolavirus was confirmed in Mubende district in the central part of the country.

ZANZIBAR, Sept 21 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — THE Australian High Commissioner to Kenya Luke Williams paid a courtesy call on Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi at the Isles State House, where the two leaders discussed how to broaden existing bilateral relations.

A press statement from State House said the Australian High Commissioner who also serves Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Somalia, promised promised Dr Mwinyi to strengthen the existing relations between Australia and Zanzibar, particularly in regard to the development of the blue economy.

DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) said Friday that its cross-border passenger train services between Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and New Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia will reopen on Oct. 4.

A statement issued by TAZARA headquarters in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam said TAZARA passenger train services between the two destinations are set to resume following the completion of the renovation of the Chambeshi railway bridge on the Chambeshi River in Zambia.

27 August 2022; AA: A small-scale miner in the East African country of Tanzania, Anselim Kawishe, stumbled upon two giant Tanzanite gemstones worth 2.2 billion Tanzanian shillings, or nearly a million dollars ($978,260), officials announced Saturday.

Adolf Ndunguru, permanent secretary in Tanzania’s Mining Ministry, said the government would buy the tanzanite stones, which weigh 3.74 and 1.48 kilograms (8.24 and 3.26 pounds), respectively.

Girls as young as 14 are being forced into marriage as the rising cost of living pushes families to the edge of survival.

In Tanzania’s northwestern Shinyanga region, the worst affected by drought, child marriages have doubled in just one year, officials said.
