India: Devotee offers 2 kg gold bars in Tirumala temple

Tirupati, July 12 (PTI) An unidentified devotee has offered 20 gold bars to the shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala Hills, near here, a top official of the temple said on Sunday.

The gold bars weighing 2 kg were found in the 'hundi' (offering box) on Saturday when the day's collection was being counted, executive officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Anil Kumar Singhal said.

The TTD governs the ancient hill temple.

India: Benzene gas leak at pharma plant in Vizag leaves 2 dead

Visakhapatnam(AP), June 30 (PTI) Two people were killed and four others taken ill after benzene gas leaked at a pharmaceutical company at Parawada near here early on Tuesday morning, but officials said the situation was under control while the plant was temporarily shut.

The incident occurred in Sainor Life Sciences unit at Pharma City but the situation was under control as the leak was restricted to one reactor unit, official sources said.

India: One Killed, Four Taken Ill Due To Gas Leak In Factory

NEW DELHI, June 28 (NNN-PTI) – One person was killed and four others were taken ill, two of them critically, due to a gas leak inside a factory in the southern Indian state of Andhara Pradesh, officials said.

The ammonia gas leaked inside a factory in Nandyala town of Kurnool district, about 310 km west of Amaravati city of Andhra Pradesh.

India: Cop accused of sexually abusing girl arrested

Hyderabad, June 25 (PTI): A 33-year-old constable was on Thursday arrested here for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl, police said.

The 12-year-old girl complained that the police constable staying in their neighbourhood allegedly abused her when she was alone in her house and threatened her to not inform the matter to anyone, they said.

Based on the complaint, a case under relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against the constable and he was arrested, they added.

India: AP govt presents Rs 2.24 lakh cr budget for FY 2020-21

Amaravati(AP), June 16(PTI) The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday presented a Rs 2.24 lakh crore budget for the financial year 2020-21, a decrease of 1.4 per cent over last year, with an estimated revenue deficit of Rs 18,434 crore and fiscal deficit of a whopping Rs 48,295 crore.

Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath presented the Budget estimates in the Legislative Assembly on the first day of the brief budget session.

India: HC orders seizure of LG Polymers plant; directors not to leave country

Amaravati (AP), May 25 (PTI): The Andhra Pradesh High Court has ordered the seizure of the premises of LG Polymers plant in Visakhapatnam, where there was a gas leakage, and also barred entry into the plant by all except the committees appointed by the state government.

The court had, in its order on May 22, ordered the companys directors not to leave the country without courts permission and instructed the authorities not to release their surrendered passports without its permission.

India: Glitch in regfrigeration unit led to gas leak: Official

Visakhapatnam, May 7 (PTI) A technical glitch in the refrigeration unit attached to the two styrene tanks at a chemical plant near here caused the vapour leak that killed 11 people and affected around 1,000 on Thursday, a senior district official said quoting a preliminary report.

The leak at the LG Polymers Limited was so intense that a "only around 9.30 am could we understand what exactly it was as the thick fog that formed in the area cleared," District Collector V Vinay Chand said.

India: 11 dead, 1,000 exposed due to gas leak in Vizag: Govt

New Delhi, May 7 (PTI) A specialised CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) team of the NDRF and medical specialists are being rushed to Vishakhapatnam where 11 people have been killed and about 1,000 affected due to gas leak at a chemical factory, the Centre said on Thursday.

Director General of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) S N Pradhan said the leakage from the factory is now minimal but the NDRF personnel will be at the spot till it is totally plugged.

Six Killed, Two Hundred Hospitalised In Gas Leak In South India

NEW DELHI, May 7 (NNN-PTI) – At least six persons died and about two hundred rushed to a local hospital, after a gas leak happened in a chemical plant in Vishakhapatnam district, of India’s southern state of Andhra Pradesh today, confirmed a local senior police official.

“As of now six persons have died and about two hundred people are admitted in a local government hospital. Some of them are said to be critical. Situation is under control and the whole area around the chemical plant has been cordoned off and sealed,” Vishakhapatnam Police Commissioner, R.K. Meena, said.

India: AP govt hikes liquor prices by another 50 per cent

Amaravati(AP), May 5 (PTI) The Andhra Pradesh government has enhanced prices of liquor by another 50 per cent on Tuesday, only a day after imposing a 25 per cent hike as shops were reopened in relaxation of the ongoing lockdown.

Special Chief Secretary (Revenue) Rajat Bhargava said the increase in liquor rates was to 'discourage' people from consumption and safeguard health.
