China, Greece vow to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- China and Greece pledged here on Wednesday to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and jointly work for better bilateral relations for the next 50 years.

While meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' meeting, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said it has been 50 years since China and Greece established diplomatic relations between the two countries.

55th ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting, related meetings kick off in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- The 55th ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related meetings kicked off here on Wednesday, with a focus on post-COVID-19 pandemic recovery and key regional and global challenges.

Cambodia is the chair of ASEAN for 2022, which groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday made clear here China's solemn position on Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi's visit to China's Taiwan region.

Wang, who is attending meetings on East Asia cooperation and on a visit to Cambodia, told reporters that Pelosi's tour is a complete farce.

WHO-Cambodia official urges people to get booster doses as more COVID-19 cases detected

PHNOM PENH, July 31 (Xinhua) -- World Health Organization (WHO) representative to Cambodia Li Ailan on Sunday called on people to get their booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines as the number of daily cases has seen an uptick.

Thirty-six new cases were confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests on Sunday, lifting the national case tally to 136,789, with 133,517 recoveries and 3,056 deaths, the health ministry said, adding that no new deaths have been reported since April.

Cambodia to host ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting

PHNOM PENH, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia will host the 55th ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related meetings from July 29 to Aug. 5 in Phnom Penh, according to a foreign ministry's statement issued on Thursday.

Cambodia is the chair of ASEAN for 2022. ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Cambodia's petroleum demand expected to reach 4.8 million tons by 2030: minister

PHNOM PENH, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The demand for petroleum products in Cambodia is projected to rise to 4.8 million tons in 2030, up from 2.8 million tons in 2020, the country's Minister of Mines and Energy Suy Sem said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Oil, Gas and Power Cambodia 2022 conference here, Sem said the demand will increase to 8.3 million tons in 2040.

"Further investments in this sector are needed in order to respond to this growing demand," he said.

Cambodia slams U.S. "Cambodia Democracy and Human Rights Act of 2022"

PHNOM PENH, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The Senate of Cambodia on Saturday slammed the so-called "Cambodia Democracy and Human Rights Act of 2022" released by the United States recently, saying the bill contains biased, unfounded and prejudiced content.

The senate said in a statement that the U.S. bill was driven by geopolitical motives.

Cambodia commits to implementing U.N. recommendations on children's rights

PHNOM PENH, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's relevant ministries have confirmed their commitment to act upon recommendations by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, said a joint statement released on Friday.

The statement was issued a day after a roundtable discussion event here, with more than 200 participants from government bodies, development partners, non-governmental organizations, and private entities.
