Cambodia attracts over 740,000 int'l tourists in first 7 months

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has attracted more than 740,000 international visitors in the first seven months of 2022, an increase of 560 percent compared to the same period last year, the Ministry of Tourism said in a news release on Saturday.

Tourism Minister Thong Khon said the re-opening of all socioeconomic activities has boosted growth at some major tourist destinations in capital city Phnom Penh, the cultural province of Siem Reap and the coastal province of Preah Sihanouk.

Road Accidents Claimed 942 Lives In Cambodia In First Half Of 2022

PHNOM PENH, Aug 18 (NNN-AKP) – The number of road fatalities in Cambodia declined to 942 people in the first half of 2022, a decrease of 9 percent from 1,033 over the same period last year, Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s secretary of state, Min Manavy said, here today.

“Among the dead, 759, or 80.5 percent, were motorcyclists, and 558 of them did not wear helmet,” she said, during the biannual meeting of the National Road Safety Committee.

55th ASEAN FMs’ Meeting, Related Meetings Ended With Adoption Of Some 30 Documents: Cambodian FM

PHNOM PENH, Aug 7 (NNN-AKP) – The 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related meetings, have successfully concluded here, adopting some 30 documents on regional cooperation, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Prak Sokhonn, said.

“We have reviewed the progress made thus far, to strengthen ASEAN’s community building, advance regional integration, and enhance our cooperation with external partners,” he told a press conference, at the end of the meetings.

Cambodia, Pakistan vow to further enhance bilateral ties

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and Pakistan on Saturday vowed to further promote bilateral relations for benefits of the two countries and peoples, a Cambodian spokesman said.

The commitment was made during a meeting between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari here on the sidelines of the 29th ASEAN regional forum hosted by Cambodia, said foreign ministry spokesman Chum Sounry.

Chinese, Singaporean FMs Exchanged Views On Taiwan Question

PHNOM PENH, Aug 6 (NNN-XINHUA) – Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, met here Thursday, with Singaporean Foreign Minister, Vivian Balakrishnan, on the sidelines of meetings of foreign ministers on East Asia cooperation.

The two sides expressed satisfaction over the sound strategic communication and close interaction at various levels between the two countries. They agree to continue maintaining high-level exchanges, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, resume flights in an orderly manner and facilitate personnel exchanges.

ASEAN foreign ministers say RCEP key contributor to region's recovery strategy

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) free trade agreement would be a key contributor to the recovery strategy of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), according to an ASEAN foreign ministers' joint communique released here on Friday.

In the joint communique issued after the 55th ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting (55th AMM) held in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, the ministers welcomed the entry into force of the RCEP from Jan. 1, 2022.

China foreign minister walks out moments before ASEAN meeting gala dinner

PHNOM PENH, Aug 4 (Reuters) - The Chinese government's top diplomat Wang Yi walked out before the start of a gala dinner of foreign ministers at a meeting in Cambodia on Thursday and was seen leaving the venue in a vehicle, witnesses said.

Wang Yi waved to media as he entered a holding room for the dinner then walked out of the venue, without giving a reason, according to Reuters journalists. Two witnesses working at the venue told Reuters Wang Yi was seen leaving in a vehicle.
