ASEAN FMs meet on COVID-19 pandemic, inclusive economic recovery

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- The ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting (AMM Retreat) kicked off here on Thursday in a hybrid format to discuss issues, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, inclusive economic recovery, and relations with dialogue partners.

Chaired by Cambodia's Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, the retreat was attended in person by foreign ministers of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Laos, and online by foreign ministers of Brunei, Thailand and Vietnam, while Myanmar did not designate a non-political representative for it.

Cambodia Sends 12th Batch Of Peacekeepers To Lebanon

PHNOM PENH, Feb 3 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia dispatched the 12th batch of 184 peacekeepers, including 29 women, to join a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, yesterday.

The military engineer corps will replace the 11th batch, whose one-year term has come to an end, Gen. Sem Sovanny, director-general of the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, said, during a sending-off ceremony at Phnom Penh international airport.

Cambodian king says motto of Beijing Winter Olympics reflects common aspiration of human society

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- The motto of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, "Together for a Shared Future," reflects the common aspiration of the human society to jointly overcome global challenges, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni said in a written interview with Xinhua on Wednesday.

"The words reflect the necessity for the world to work together towards a better tomorrow, especially given the difficulties faced throughout the COVID-19 pandemic," he said in the interview ahead of his attendance at the opening ceremony of the Olympics.

Excavations at ruined temple in Cambodia's famed Angkor site almost completed

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Archaeologists from the APSARA National Authority (ANA) have almost completed excavations at the ruined Prohm Kel temple in the Angkor Archaeological Park in northwest Cambodia's Siem Reap province, the authority said in a news release on Wednesday.

The excavations were made to study the temple's entire structure before proceeding to restore it, the news release said, adding that the sandstone temple was one of the hospital chapels around the Angkor Thom temple during the reign of King Jayavarman VII at the end of the 12th century.

Cambodia to host summit of ASEAN foreign ministers from Feb 16

PHNOM PENH, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will meet next month to discuss humanitarian aid for Myanmar, the current chair of the grouping, Cambodia, said on Saturday.

Cambodia's foreign minister, and ASEAN special envoy, Prak Sokhonn, is a preparing for his first visit to Myanmar, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen met here on Monday with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Secretary-General Lim Jock Hoi on regional issues, a senior official said.

The discussions included the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and Myanmar's political situation, said Kao Kim Hourn, a minister attached to the Cambodian prime minister.

China-funded medical building in Cambodia's capital passes completion inspection

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- A China-aided medical building at the Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, successfully passed the completion inspection on Tuesday, the contractor, China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd., said in a news release.

The 11-story building has 400 beds and is equipped with high-tech medical equipment, the news release said, adding that it is divided into different units, including surgery, outpatient services, emergency, medical technology, hospitalization, and logistics.

Cambodia's ruling party endorses PM's eldest son as future PM candidate: statement

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) on Friday unanimously decided to endorse Hun Manet, the eldest son of Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, as the future prime ministerial candidate, the ruling party's statement said.

The decision was made during the party's 43rd Central Committee meeting held at the party's headquarters in Phnom Penh, the statement said, adding that the meeting was presided over by Hun Sen, president of the CPP, and National Assembly President Heng Samrin, honorary president of the CPP.
