Cambodia announces 10th round of relief measures to support pandemic-hit businesses

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Cambodian government on Thursday unveiled its 10th round of relief measures to assist COVID-19-hit businesses as the Southeast Asian nation still grapples with the pandemic.

In its statement, the government said garment, airline, and tourism-related businesses such as hotels and restaurants still suffer from the impact of the pandemic.

Cambodia Lifts Ban On All Flights From Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines

PHNOM PENH, Oct 24 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia yesterday, lifted ban on all flights from Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, after most of the kingdom’s population have been vaccinated against COVID-19, Health Minister, Mam Bunheng said, in a press statement.

The decision to lift the ban was made by Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and it took effect immediately, he said.

“It’s part of the country’s move to reopen social and economic activities gradually, in all areas, by adapting to the new normal and to reactivate air transport services,” Bunheng said.

ADB approves 40 mln USD loan for Cambodia's financial sector development

UNESCO commends Cambodia's commitment to strengthen urban heritage preservation

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Friday highly appreciated Cambodia's commitment to strengthen urban heritage preservation.

"Urban heritage, including its tangible and intangible components, constitutes a key resource in enhancing the liveability and resilience of urban areas, and fosters economic development and social cohesion in a changing environment," UNESCO said in a press release.

U.S. calls Cambodia opaque over Chinese activity at navy base

PHNOM PENH, Oct 13 (Reuters) - The United States on Wednesday accused Cambodia of lacking transparency about Chinese construction activities at its biggest naval base, and urged the government to disclose to its people the full scope of Beijing's military involvement.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on Wednesday made public what it said were satellite images showing construction in August and September of three new buildings and the start of a new road.

Germany, WFP to provide cash assistance to vulnerable Cambodian families affected by COVID-19, climate shocks

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Germany and World Food Programme (WFP) entered into a new partnership to support lower-income Cambodian families affected by COVID-19 and climate-related shocks, said a joint press release on Monday.

Under the partnership, Germany has committed 5 million euros, or approximately 5.86 million U.S. dollars, to provide cash assistance to vulnerable households to support their recovery, the press release said.

75 Percent Of Cambodia’s Population Inoculated Against COVID-19

PHNOM PENH, Sept 20 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia has administered at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccines to 12.05 million people, or 75.3 percent of the kingdom’s 16-million population, officials and experts said today.

Of them, 10.3 million, or 64.4 percent, have been fully vaccinated with both required shots, and 830,814, or 5.2 percent, have received a booster dose, the health ministry’s secretary of state and spokeswoman, Or Vandine, said in a report.

Cambodian leader boasts he barged into opposition video call

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has boasted of barging uninvited into a video conference call hosted by his political opponents.

An enthusiastic user of social media, Hun Sen said Friday he intruded into the Zoom call to warn his opponents that he and his spies were keeping a close eye on them.

Cambodia vaccinating 6-to-11-year-olds before schools reopen

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — Cambodia began vaccinating 6-to-11-year-olds Friday so students can safely return to schools that have been closed for months due to the coronavirus.

Prime Minister Hun Sen inaugurated the campaign to vaccinate the children, speaking live on state television and his Facebook page as his grandchildren and young family members of other senior officials were shown being given their jabs.

China’s FM Wang visiting Cambodia to discuss virus, trade

PHNOM PEHN, Cambodia (AP) — China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi is visiting Cambodia, where’s he expected to meet with Prime Minister Hun Sen and other officials to discuss COVID-19 and other regional issues.

Cambodia’s foreign ministry said Wang’s meetings on Sunday and Monday would include discussions of trade and security as well.

Wrapping up a visit to neighboring Vietnam on Saturday, Wang said China planned to donate 3 million vaccine doses to that country, which is under a lockdown to contain a COVID-19 surge.
