Cambodian PM to attend ASEAN+3 summit on COVID-19 via video conference next week

PHNOM PENH, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen will attend the special ASEAN Summit and the special ASEAN+3 (China, Japan and South Korea) Summit on COVID-19 via video conference on Tuesday here, said a foreign ministry's statement on Sunday.

The upcoming summits were convened by Vietnam, the current chair of ASEAN.

PHNOM PENH, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said on Tuesday that mutual help between Cambodia and China in the time of COVID-19 pandemic has uplifted the bilateral relations to new heights.

"A friend in need is a friend indeed," he said during a press conference on the latest situation of COVID-19 in Cambodia. "Cambodia-China friendship takes a step further and will reach new heights after this event."

Cambodia: Over 110 Schools In Siem Reap Closed Following First Local COVID-19 Infection

PHNOM PENH, Mar 10 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, said, all public and private schools in Siem Reap City in northwest Siem Reap province were temporarily closed after a local man was infected with COVID-19.

“More than 110 schools have been closed,” he said in a speech, during the inauguration ceremony of a national road in northwest Pursat province.

He said, the Angkor Sangkran festival, previously scheduled to be held at the Angkor Archaeological Park, to celebrate the Khmer New Year in mid-Apr, was also cancelled.

Cambodia Says ASEAN Fully Confident In China’s Capacity To Contain COVID-19

PHNOM PENH, Feb 23 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia said, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), is fully confident in China’s capacity to control and contain the spread of COVID-19.

“ASEAN Foreign Ministers expressed full confidence in the government and people of China, to overcome the epidemic and, in return, their Chinese counterpart extended his appreciation to ASEAN Member States for sympathy, support and assistance,” said a Cambodian foreign ministry statement.

1,000 passengers, crew members disembark from Westerdam cruise ship: Cambodian authorities

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Cambodian Ministry of Health said in a statement late on Monday that 1,010 out of the 2,257 people onboard the Westerdam cruise ship had been allowed to disembark from the ship in the last three days.

The statement said the first batch of 409 people left the ship on Friday, flying from the Sihanoukville International Airport, the third largest airport of the country, to the Phnom Penh International Airport in the capital before taking flights to their home countries.

“Everyone says ‘poor you’. But there was no poor you. We had free internet and free wine. We had three-course meals. There was so much choice,” said Zahra Jennings, a retired staff nurse from Britain.

Cruise ship turned away in other ports anchors off Cambodia

SIHANOUKVILLE, Cambodia (AP) — A cruise ship turned away by other Asian and Pacific governments due to virus fears anchored Thursday off Cambodia, which is checking the health of its 2,200 passengers and crew.

The Westerdam was unwelcome elsewhere even though operator Holland America Line said no cases of the COVID-19 viral illness have been confirmed among the 1,455 passengers and 802 crew members on board.

Cambodian Economy Projected To Grow 7.1 Percent This Year

PHNOM PENH, Jan 29 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia’s economy is projected to remain robust in 2020, despite stronger external headwinds, the Singapore-based ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) said.

“Real GDP (gross domestic product) growth is forecast to moderate to a more sustainable rate of 7.1 percent in 2019 and 2020, supported by robust construction activities, strong domestic credit growth, and buoyant domestic demand,” the press release said.

Inflation is expected to rise to 2.3 percent this year, slightly up from 2.1 percent last year, it said.

Death Toll In Cambodia’s Building Collapse Rises To 22

PHNOM PENH, Jan 5 (NNN-AKP) – Death toll in the collapse of a six-story building in southwest Cambodia’s Kep province on Friday, has risen to 22, a provincial spokesman said today (Sunday).

“By 8:10 a.m. (local time) today, 22 people were confirmed dead, and 23 others injured,” Kep Information Department director, Ros Udong, said.

He said, all the victims were Cambodian construction workers and their family members. “The rescue operation is still going on, and is expected to be completed at noon today,” he added.

6 die, 16 injured after under-construction building collapses in SW Cambodia, rescue going on

KEP, Cambodia, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Six Cambodian workers died and 16 others injured after a six-floor guesthouse building, that was under construction, collapsed in southwestern Cambodia's Kep province on Friday, a provincial spokesman said on Saturday.

"Twenty-two people were pulled out of the debris of the collapsed building, but six of them had died," Kep Provincial Information Department director and spokesman Ros Udong told Xinhua, adding that the victims aged between 15 and 56 years old.
