Cambodia Arrests Man With Over 48 Kg Of Illicit Drugs

PHNOM PENH, Nov 22 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodian authorities arrested a 35-year-old local man for allegedly trafficking more than 48 kg of illicit drugs, the National Police reported today.

The suspect was first arrested on Wednesday, near a gas station in the capital, Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district, with 100 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and after being questioned, he confessed to having hidden a large amount of drugs in his rented room.

20 Killed, Over 26,000 Evacuated In Cambodia Due To Flooding

PHNOM PENH, Oct 18 (NNN-AKP) – Flash floods in Cambodia so far left 20 people dead and forced the evacuation of 26,608 people, Seak Vichet, a spokesman for the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), said yesterday.

Tropical storm-triggered rains caused floods in 19 of the kingdom’s 25 cities and provinces, since the beginning of the month, he said, adding that, 245,428 people have also been affected.

Cambodian parliament passes draft law on commercial gaming management

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The National Assembly of Cambodia on Monday adopted a draft law on commercial gaming management, which was intended to bring casinos and other gaming facilities in the kingdom under control.

Some 114 lawmakers attending the parliamentary session unanimously approved the bill, said the parliament's statement released after the session.

Economy and Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth said the bill sets a minimum capital for the investment in a casino and provides measures to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.

Tropical Storm Noul Leaves 11 Dead In Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Sept 22 (NNN-AKP) – The impact of tropical storm Noul has left 11 people dead and one missing in Cambodia, a disaster control spokesman said on Monday.

National Committee for Disaster Management spokesman, Khun Sokha, said, heavy rain, strong wind and lightning began on Sept 17-20, as a result of the storm which battered the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Laos.

Cambodian PM Says Globalisation, Multilateral Trade Vital For Global Growth, Poverty Reduction

PHNOM PENH, Sept 6 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said, strengthening globalisation and multilateral trade are crucial to support global economic growth and reducing poverty.

The prime minister made the remarks at the Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit, held virtually from Sept 4 to 5, and co-hosted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates.

Chikungunya Virus Hits 15 Provinces In Cambodia, Affecting Over 2,000 People

PHNOM PENH, Aug 9 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia said, the Chikungunya virus outbreak (CHIKV) spread to 15 provinces, affecting 2,047 people, Health Ministry’s secretary of state and spokeswoman, Or Vandine, said.

“About 72.4 percent of the patients were tested positive for CHIKV,” she said in a statement. CHIKV re-emerged in the Southeast Asian country last month, after having disappeared for a decade.

Cambodia PM says ruling party to dominate politics for up to 100 years

PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Monday his ruling party would be a dominant force in politics for as long as a century, telling the opposition it should wait until the next life if it wants to take power.

Hun Sen’s Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), which has been in power since 1979, holds every seat in the 125-member legislature after the main opposition was dissolved ahead of a 2018 general election, accused of plotting to overthrow the government.

Cambodia supports China's draft decision on HK national security legislation: spokesman

PHNOM PENH, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia supports China's draft decision on establishing and improving the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to safeguard national security, Foreign Ministry spokesman Koy Kuong has said.

"Cambodia consistently adheres to the one-China policy and considers affairs of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the internal affairs of the People's Republic of China," he told Xinhua on Saturday.

Cambodia says all COVID-19 patients recovered, no new cases for a month

PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Cambodia’s last patient with the new coronavirus has recovered and left hospital, leaving the Southeast Asian country with zero cases, the health ministry said on Saturday, while urging continued vigilance.

No easing of restrictions related to the virus - including school closures and border entry checks and quarantines - were included in the Ministry of Health statement.
