Cambodian PM says China-ASEAN dialogue relations bring about mutual development, prosperity

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said on Friday that the China-ASEAN dialogue relations have brought about development in all fields and prosperity for the nations and the people of ASEAN and China.

He made the remarks during the opening session of the 18th China-ASEAN Expo via videoconference.

Hun Sen expressed his pleasure and congratulations to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations.

Cambodia receives new batch of China's Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Saturday received an additional 2.5 million doses of China's Sinovac vaccine against COVID-19 as the Southeast Asian country continued to fight the pandemic.

A plane carrying the new batch of Chinese vaccine arrived at the Phnom Penh International Airport shortly before 10 a.m. local time, said Ministry of Health (MoH) Secretary of State Yok Sambath.

Cambodia's Delta variant cases jump to 999 with 163 new infections

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's Ministry of Health (MoH) announced on Sunday that another 163 new cases of the Delta COVID-19 variant were confirmed, bringing the total number of such cases in the Southeast Asian nation to 999.

"So far, the Delta variant has hit 23 out of the kingdom's 25 cities and provinces," the MoH said in a statement, adding that only in Kep and Kratie provinces the variant has not been found yet.

Cambodia arrests 2 drug criminals, seizing over 28 kg of illicit drugs

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's Anti-Drug Department police have arrested two men for allegedly trafficking over 28 kilograms of illicit drugs, the National Police reported on Saturday.

The suspects, a 38-year-old Cambodian and a 54-year-old Thai, were caught during a simultaneous raid at two locations in capital Phnom Penh on Wednesday.

"More than 24 kg of crystal methamphetamine and 4 kg of ecstasy as well as four cars, one pistol and six phones were seized from the duo," the National Police said on its website.

Last living Khmer Rouge leader says not behind Cambodia bloodbath

PHNOM PENH, Aug 19 (Reuters) - The last surviving leader of Cambodia's Khmer Rouge regime on Thursday denied involvement in genocide and being responsible for crimes against humanity, in one of his final appearances before an international tribunal.

Khmer Rouge era President Khieu Samphan, 90, was speaking during his appeal of a 2018 guilty verdict that was one of only a few rulings against those deemed "most responsible" for the deaths of an estimated 1.7 million people from 1975-1979.

Defense: Former Cambodian official not guilty of genocide

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — The defense team for the former head of state of Cambodia’s brutal Khmer Rouge regime argued Tuesday that his genocide conviction should be overturned, calling into question evidence presented at his original trial before an international tribunal.

In the second day of Khieu Samphan’s appeal, attorney Anta Guissé told judges that evidence of killings of Vietnamese minorities in Cambodian border provinces Prey Veng and Svay Rieng was weak, and questioned whether the slayings rose to the level of genocide.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — The last living leader from the inner circle of Cambodia’s brutal Khmer Rouge regime launched his courtroom appeal Monday, seeking to convince a long-running international tribunal to overturn his conviction on genocide charges.

Khieu Samphan, 90, was the former head of state for the Khmer Rouge, the radical communist regime that ruled Cambodia with an iron fist from 1975 to 1979 and was responsible for the deaths of an estimated 1.7 million people.

Cambodia receives another batch of China-aided Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- A plane carrying a new batch of China-donated Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine touched down in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, on Sunday, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said.

A new batch of vaccine arrived on Sunday morning, he said during the launch of a vaccination drive for the adolescent group aged from 12 to 17.

Hun Sen said China is the key vaccine supplier to Cambodia and expressed his sincere thanks to China for donating and selling vaccines to the Southeast Asian nation regularly and timely.

PHNOM PENH, July 31 (Xinhua) -- A plane carrying a new batch of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine landed in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, on Saturday, giving another boost to the country in its vaccination drive.

Health ministry's secretary of state Yok Sambath, who welcomed the arrival of the vaccine at the Phnom Penh International Airport, said the jab was purchased from Chinese biopharmaceutical firm Sinovac Biotech.

Covid-19: Cambodia imposes night curfew in capital, provincial towns, populated areas to curb Delta variant

PHNOM PENH, July 29 (NNN-XINHUA) — Cambodia has decided to impose a night curfew in capital Phnom Penh, provincial towns and populated areas for two weeks, starting from Friday to Aug. 12, in order to curb the spread of Delta COVID-19 variant, Prime Minister Hun Sen said.

“Impose curfew from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. in parts or throughout territories under your jurisdiction, especially in Phnom Penh capital city, provincial towns and populated areas,” he said in an instruction to the municipal and provincial governors.
