PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Growth in Cambodia’s economy is expected to slow slightly next year, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Friday, warning that it would be hit much harder if the European Union suspends preferential trade terms.

Without a suspension, the economy is expected to grow 6.8% in 2020, compared with 7% in 2019, driven by garment exports, the IMF said.

Private sector credit, increasingly concentrated in the real estate and construction sectors, has accelerated and is expected to grow around 28 percent in 2019.

PHNOM PENH, Dec 27 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, said, the recent meeting of leaders of China, Japan and South Korea, boded well for Asia’s economy and stability.

The 8th China-Japan-S.Korea leaders’ meeting was held in China’s southwestern city of Chengdu on Tuesday, and the leaders agreed to further promote cooperation, uphold free trade and multi-lateralism and realise the complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — The Cambodian government has expressed “strong dismay” over a U.S. Treasury decision to sanction two businessmen suspected of corruption and illegal logging.

A Foreign Ministry statement said Tuesday that the sanctions were based on groundless accusations.

“The Executive Order is an ambush against the ongoing efforts to restore trust and confidence between Cambodia and the United States,” the statement said.

PHNOM PENH, Dec 1 (NNN-AKP) – HIV/AIDS killed more than 1,300 people in Cambodia in 2018, down 48 percent from over 2,500 deaths in 2010, Ieng Mouly, chairman of the National AIDS Authority, said today.

Speaking at an event marking World AIDS Day, Mouly said, some 880 people became newly infected with HIV last year, down 62 percent from 2,300 nine years ago.

Nation’s King, Norodom Sihamoni, accompanied by Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, laid a wreath and lit the ceremonial victory fire, inside the capital’s Independence Monument, to symbolise the country’s independence from France.

Amnesty International, meanwhile, decried cooperation by Malaysia and Thailand to prevent foreign-based Cambodian opposition figures getting home to rally support.

PURSAT, Cambodia, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) celebrated the World Food Day in Pursat province on Saturday, reiterating commitment to eradicate hunger in the kingdom by 2030.

Speaking to hundreds of participants at the event in Kandieng district of northwestern Pursat province, Cambodian Agriculture Minister Veng Sakhon said the country would achieve "zero hunger" through ensuring sustainable food production, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agricultural development.
